I'm writing a paper for my literature class and the topic (of my own choosing) is Don Quixote, is he a hero or a madman? I've read this story and watched the movie with John Lithgow but I can't decide if this man is a hero or just really crazy....I like to hear what you guys think about this novel

I find it a little ambitious you are writing about this book. You actually read the whole book, in a literature class?

I shouldn't even tell you this, but I believe that one way to look at Don Quixote is in terms of knightly manners I think it was called, or something like that. Cervantes was trying to interrogate the lost values of chivalry to his contemporaries.

If you look at it that way it would point to the not crazy side of the argument.

i actually read the entire book in high school, hated it. its divided into 2 parts, quality actually varies quite a bit between these two part, with the 1st part much better quality wise. madman is the general consensus of the class.

By all means, you should throw out the book and base your critique solely on the movies. However, you might not want to put all your eggs into the single Hallmark Hall of Fame, straight-to-basic-cable, all-we-can-afford-is-Lithgow basket.

Unfortunately, Orson Welles died before his opus was completed, and Terry Gilliam failed to secure enough financing for his version with Johnny Depp. One of those Quixotes died, and another developed hemorrhoids from riding and dropped out.

Since those films never came to be, in place of Quixote, I'd suggest just substituting Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow character in the Pirates of the Caribbean film quartet. Or, if you haven't seen the movies, just base your paper on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney World. Or, if you haven't been to Disney World, just pop a quarter into the bouncing car in front of your nearest grocery store. It's all the same thing, really.

There's a ton of articles written on this subject by people much more *ahem* interested in the subject than here on clutchfans. I would suggest google at the very least.

He's a crazy hero. Delusional, to be sure, but still in possession of the characteristics and traits that make a hero.

Just compare and contrast the two. Instant paper. Leave the conclusion up to the grader, like the author did .... you'll be so clever.

How the heck did CF.net hangout become an online tutoring, or cheating, for students?

Make up your own mind and look through the book again to find quotes that support your argument.
