Mobley is done for the season according to the Chronicle. So his stats are final, over his last 42 games: <b>24.1</b>ppg at <b>45.9%</b> Someone mind double-checking these numbers...from Jan 15th on. thx I think it is safe to say that he made a successful adjustment to beating zones. How many of us really believed he could do it? I had my doubts. Overall, his career shooting is: 42.5% 43.0% 43.4% 43.8% i think I see a steady upward trend. Cheers to blowing me away with noticeable improvement again Cuttino! So, what's up for next year: Christie positional defense, improved court vision. I'll take either of those, even marginally, if he maintains this 46% shooting. He could even improve his shooting% as Francis's PG skills improve. Ahhh, let the summer dreaming begin.
I'll have to see proof of that before I believe it. Anyways, I would say Cuttino makes opposing defenders look a lot stupider than they make him look.
At least crispee backs up his claim with #s. What are yours? Considering the amount of time he spends in the off season practicing, I wasn't surprise by his improvement in FG%. I have to admit, I thought the zone was going to kill Mobley. Let's hope he can improve on his defense. I am not holding my breath on seeing him improving on decision making... that's just not something you can really practice on.
I wouldn't care if Cat never got another assist. If our starting point guard played his position as well as our starting shooting guard plays his (including defense), I would be ecstatic.
That is quite impressive, in a Jerry Stackhouse kind of way. I'm not making a Stack reference in terms of FG%, since Mobley's FG% isn't as poor as Stack's. But rather, putting up big PPG figures on very bad teams isn't much to put much stock into. Notice how Det has won more, since Stack has put his focus on something more than shooting it 25 times a game. I would be happier if Mobley averaged 15 ppg, and played tougher D, as well as involved his teammates better.
I concur that he is indeed improving on his offensive game. Now if we can get him to play a more team oriented game then he will help the TEAM improve and not just his stats. Sometimes in order to improve as a team you need to make personal sacrifices. I think that is the next step in Cat and Steve's development. If they can trust their teamates and start sharing the ball, and playing defense the team can improve, if not...well.... DaDakota
All I'm saying is that the balance on his shot has improved noticeably, not to mention his separation. I consider that a fact, and the numbers back it up. No matter how you slice it, Mobley is a better player than last year. How you want to use him is a matter of taste and his teammate's success, and a matter of what type of offenses Francis can play. I'd be glad if Mobley just marginally improves his positional defense and keeps improving his shot like he did this year. I'd be estatic! As for using him as a 15ppg Doug Christie, I think he will play any role Rudy asks him to play. That role is all up to the improvement of Francis and Griffin. Right now, Cuttino is the best scorer, so cutting his shots down to 12 pg is unreasonable. UTweener, I think you are talking about the Rocket's shooting guard last year.
whats up with the lame name calling... I was simply stating that if Mobley put even half of his energy he puts into his offensive game...into his defensive game... He'd be a better player.
Congrats, Mobely. I hope the Rockets attempt to use him with a play. Give Mobes a screen, even a give and go. Iso is not a play. Beware the Jim Jackson curse. JJ was a killer scorer (did he have a 50pt game?) with the triple J playground in Dallas, but could not play with others. He has bumped around the league ever since as an uncoachable cancer who never passes, plays no d, and always goes one on one. That Kidd, Jackson, Mashburn memory gives me pause. They never did make the playoffs, but hey, they were "in" every game! So we only won thirty four games - I scored fitty! Woo hoo! Rockets must be better than that, and the Cat's defensive reads and court sense and execution off the play will surely be crucial. Have a great offseason. p
here is your proof http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/020412.html 'Antwan Jamison (20 PPG, more negatives than positives) ... Danny Fortson (on pace to lose 1,000 games for his career; he's the anti-Red Auerbach) ... Jason Terry (the Sleepy Floyd of his generation) ... Kurt Thomas (a legitimate fantasy force on a team that loses by 12 points every night) ... sixth man Cuttino Mobley (scoring 21.5 a game, giving up 35 a game on the other end) ... and, of course, six-time MVP Juwan Howard (lighting it up again on a dreadful Denver team). ' it clearly states my point. I don't think they would just make up numbers.
Mobley is definitely better. I think we could get more team oriented if we ran some of the plays that were constantly used for Reggie Miller in his prime. Now that Griff and Mo are back, we can have more pick and rolls too. I'm hoping that Mobley's respect for Rice, and knowledge of Mo T's offensive skills will up his assist numbers hence involving the team more.
One more thing. I'm ecstatic at Mobley's dramatic improvement in one crucial area, 3pt%. It's so important because now deefnders can either backup off him or get their ankles broken. I hope Mobley uses this new weapon efficiently, not abusing the 3-pt shot though.
I think that stat means that Cat is better at hitting the OPEN 3, as opposed to the 3 off the dribble. Which means, hopefully, teams will guard Cat more, which will open things up for the other players.
Is this UTwinner actually quoting Bill Simmons to me? And I thought Aggies were the biggest winners. I'm so glad Rice isn't in y'alls conference anymore. It always embarrassed me to be around such winners. btw: what was the score of the last SW Conf game between Rice and UT again. http://archive.nandotimes.com/newsroom/football/1994/college/game/week7/swc/7ric.html oooh....so said, you had a 28 yr winning streak on us...snapped on ESPN game of the week; I was there!
I think Rice and UT are gonna hook it up next year. Good luck to Rice. This UT team is fast at every position. Why does that article refer to Mobley as the 6th man?
Bill Simmons isn't an analyst. He's more a sports comedian. Really funny. He's the guy that does the hilarous draft day stories about watching the draft with his dad and dogs. anyhow, he got started by writing his own website columns, right? Now, he does 3 columns at ESPN a week. Funniest sports writing around.
And here is mine... I went through all 80 games for this season & gather the stats between Cat & the opposition's starting SG or best SG off the bench (who ever scored more).
