Velvet Underground Sonic Youth Buzzcocks Talking Heads The Replacements Radiohead The Pixies Joy Division A pretty respectable group, in all.... Wish there were more votes but I realize many of the bands have been obscure.
Not a bad final 8 at all - any of these bands would be worthy, in my mind, of winning this thing. Votes are in bold: Velvet Underground Sonic Youth Buzzcocks Talking Heads The Replacements Radiohead The Pixies Joy Division
Velvet Underground Sonic Youth Buzzcocks Talking Heads The Replacements vs. Radiohead - don't care The Pixies Joy Division
Velvet Underground - w - Wow, Manny talked about "Daydream Nation" the other day and I forgot how much I loved it. I caught VU later in life than I wish I had, but they win easily. Sonic Youth Buzzcocks Talking Heads -w- No contest The Replacements Radiohead -w- I like the creativity of Radiohead, but I'm not a total fanboy for them. The Pixies -w- Greatest band in this group to me, but they are my favorite band. Joy Division was such an incredible group as well. Rest In Peace, Ian. Tough pairing. Joy Division
Velvet Underground - W - Kinda surprised they have done so well No Sonic Youth without the VU Sonic Youth Buzzcocks - W - Buzzcocks are cool, even Manny knows that Talking Heads The Replacements - W - Perhaps my fav of the bunch left... Radiohead The Pixies Joy Division -W- The Pixies might win this thing and I'd be cool with that. Doolittle is almost perfect and kind of dwarfs there other releases. I just happen to like Joy Division a little more and think they put out better over-all lp's
These are some tough matchups. Velvet Underground - w Sonic Youth Buzzcocks Talking Heads - w The Replacements Radiohead - w The Pixies Joy Division - w (literally I tossed a coin. It was too close to call)
Velvet Underground - *** - this is tough as s.y. has been one of my favorite bands for over 15 years now. Sonic Youth Buzzcocks Talking Heads - *** not so tough. i was jamming remain in light yesterday. dont listen to much buzzcocks. The Replacements - *** i like radiohead ALOT better, but im voting against them so the pixies wont face them in the next round. the replacements are my 2005 seattle sonics, if you will. Radiohead The Pixies - death to joy division!******************************************* ************************************************************************************************************************************************************ Joy Division
Velvet Underground - legendary, they helped invent cool Talking Heads - Love Buzzcoks but TH is on another level The Replacements - I relate to drunks The Pixies - I don't go crazy over them live everyone else, but I don't know much JD What happened to the Big Boys?
Velvet Underground Talking Heads Radiohead Joy Division - I really respect the Pixies but never listen to them.
Velvet Underground Talking Heads The Replacements- I'm still wondering why Radiohead has special courtesy to be in both BOTB polls. I always knew the Mats wouldn't win because they would go up against a more popular band, not necessarily better band as probably will be the case here. The people the Replacements have influenced are too many to mention but a few include Nirvana (you didn't think the title Nevermind came from nowhere did you, HA!), the goo goo dolls, the black crowes, Tom Petty (wonder where he got/stole that Rebel without a clue lyric, that was used ad nauseam in his into the great wide open song), Lucinda Williams, and Liz Phair. Westerberg H.S. in the move Heathers is also a nod to lead singer and songwriter Paul Westerberg. Hopefully,if there is any justice in the world, these guys will be inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame just to hear Paul's grammy acceptance speech which he never got to use which goes something along the lines of "thank you for this award, where were you f***ers when we really needed you". Can't hardly wait. The Pixies
