Anybody know if files (in this case, specifically those for Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop) saved in the Mac environment will work in PC, and the other way around? After some googling, I'm almost certain that one would be able to do so for above-mentioned programs, given that the media (CD-R, disk, etc) is PC-formatted. But since we have some graphics design and multi-platform peoples on here, I'd appreciate some expert opinions. This is for a friend, who'll be working in a Mac lab at school, but has PC at home. Thanks in advance guys.
I believe that Adobe softwares' files from Mac should be compatible with PC's version. You might need to check the version and release to make sure that they are compatible though.
Pretty much every major software manufacturer - assuming you are on OS 9.2 or higher - makes moving files from mac to pc and vice versa easy. The only thing to remember is to save the files with extensions if you are not in OS X. OS X does this automatically, but OS 9.x did not. For example. .doc for Word, .ai for Illustrator and .pdf for Photoshop. I send files to PC's and receive them all the time on my Mac and I almost NEVER have a problem. OldManBernie is correct, however, that you need to make sure your software versions are compatible. If you have a newer version of Photoshop than the person you are sending the file to, they won't be alble to open it. You will have to save the file in that older version format for them which can eliminate things you have done that only the newer version offers. But, that isn't a platform (Mac OS vs Win) issue. That is a version compaitibility issue.
Uh...Jeff? Photoshop files are .psd Acrobat reader files are .pdf Unless the Mac version saves them to different extensions, I wouldnt know on that count.
You know, I had wanted to stay the oldest junior member on the bbs, but I guess that just went out the window. In any event, thanks a bunch guys, I really appreciate it.
