Good. I've always thought the FIBA 3-point line was a complete joke. http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/olybb/news/story?id=3368944 BEIJING -- International basketball is going to look more like the NBA after two major rule changes take effect. The 3-point line will move back and the three-second area will change shape starting in 2010, the sport's world governing body announced Saturday. After Oct. 1, 2010, FIBA will begin using the new rules for major events such as the Olympics and world and continental championships. The 3-point line will move from 20 feet, 6.1 inches to 22 feet, 1.7 inches. The NBA line is 23-9. FIBA general secretary Patrick Baumann said it was likely FIBA would move toward the NBA distance in the next 10 years. FIBA also will reconfigure the three-second area to match the NBA shape, going from a trapezoid to a rectangle.
i don't like the shape change. i always thought the FIBA shape looks better than the NBA box. 3 point line doesn't really matter what much. people are still going to jack off 3's.
I don't understand this? What a random change. If you're going to change at all, why not make it uniform across the world?
to do it in steps. If it instantly went to NBA distance then they would get destroyed to easily by NBA competition.
They'd do a lot more good for the sport if they'd match up the goal-tending rules with the NBA. FIBA's are as silly as they come.
i like the FIBA rule. if your shot didn't go in, let the big men grab it. it goes for both offense and defense. if your teammate didn't make the shot, you don't have to wait for it. just throw it in. short players, sucks to be you then.
I agree, I thought FIBA's paint area shape made more sense. It sorta gives the guys towards the back a chance at rebounding the ball, at least in theory. What I really want changed is the pump-fake rule. What kinda garbage rule won't allow a player to pump-fake then dribble. It just doesn't make sense. That's not a travel.. Europeans clearly don't know what traveling means. LOL, exactly what I was thinking as well!
This is not a random change. The 3 point line move from 6.25m to 6.75m. And the rules is already uniform across the world, All other countries play the same rule - FIBA rule, even America NT play the FIBA rule.
What are you talking about? Of course you can pump fake before dribbling, that's one of the first thing they teach you. What you can't do is take a step before dribbling, you have to bring the ball down at the same time or before your first step. And I don't think you can criticize European basketball on the issue of traveling with the amount of obvious travels which happen in the NBA and which are not being called.
