[rquoter]Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry is close to parting ways with the franchise less than two weeks after the dismissal of coach Mike Brown, triggering a dramatic reshaping of the team’s brain trust as it desperately tries to retain LeBron James(notes), league sources told Yahoo! Sports. ...Ferry, who was disappointed about having to fire Brown, a close confidante from their days with the San Antonio Spurs, decided to leave less than a month before James becomes a free agent. Assistant GM Chris Grant is expected to take over for Ferry.[/rquoter] http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ys-ferrycavaliers060410
The guy did what he could. Too bad for him he couldn't land a real star. Wanted Ray Allen and got Larry Hughes. Wanted Amare and got Jamison.
Strange twist to the LeBron James saga. I always said he would re-sign with Cleveland but I don't know if this helps, hurts it, or does nothing at all to his chances of coming back to Cleveland.
I actually think that the more the front office changes there are, the less likely LeBron will stay. LeBron had built trust with Mike Brown and Danny Ferry, he knew they tried at the very least.
Until they actually fill their vacant coach and GM positions, I think it hurts. If I were LBJ, I wouldn't sign with a team if I didn't know who was going to be shaping/constructing it.
This is either the result of Lebron letting the Cavs know he wanted Ferry gone or it is Ferry finally getting sick of Lebron's antics and trying to maintain some dignity as a man. There is no way Ferry walks if he and Lebron had a good relationship or if the Cavs think keeping Ferry ups their chances of Lebron returning.
So, is Grant their new guy or interim GM? I'm sure the credibility of the new GM will be important to James' thinking.
It seems to me that Lebron has always been the guy who wanted to be the one shaping the team. I believe someone linked an article here that said Lebron has to sign off on player deals made before Ferry could pull the trigger on them. The Cavs are basically going to turn the keys to the franchise over to Lebron to get him to stay. I suspect that has been his plan all along.
Lebron is the franchise. If lebron told the rockets I will come here if you fire morey and rick. They would be gone in 2 seconds. You get a lebron once every 6-7 years. You better do anything and everything to keep him.
I think the real question about LeBron is will ever gain the focus and passion for the game like Kobe? I think if Kobe wins this year he will be the G.O.A.T. LeBron can either grow up and gain maturity like Kobe (without doing white girls in the butt) or end up like Spoiler
yet, Danny Aigne got KG and Allen, and Kupchak (by way of Jerry West) traded for Shaq, then Kobe and then Gasol. his pedestrian record as a GM speaks for itself.
