There was a slight tear in the ligament, which doesn't sound good. But McGrady says he's going to play against Dallas. http://blogs.chron.com/nba/
Sprain and ligament tear are two entirely different injuries. How come the Rockets would straight up lie to the fans immediately after the MRI?? I understand torn ligament sounds scary even if it is only a slight partial tear (which it hopefully is) and I understand why they would want to downplay the speculating. Did they not think the truth would ever surface??
so we know how it goes with lingering injuries with this guy...what's the over/under on minutes played before he's out again? my guess: 12
For once I'm hoping this is just a "dumb T-Mac" moment and he somehow got mixed up on what his injury actually was. If the doctors come out and officially call it a torn ligament, that'll be something to worry about.
http://blogs.chron.com/nba/ McGrady returns, bringing news (good and bad) Tracy McGrady went through practice and extra shooting and happily looked to Wednesday's game against the Dallas Mavericks with a declaration of "I'm playing." Then he dropped a bit of less encouraging news. He said he felt good on the court, with little discomfort, but nothing he considered pain. But while talking about his injury, he said it was a slightly "torn ligament" in his elbow, rather than the sprain as the Rockets have called it since the MRI Wednesday night. "This was one of the weirdest injuries I've had in my career," McGrady said. "If it was on my left arm, I still would (have been) out there playing, but because it was on my shooting arm and had a slight tear in there, they wanted to prevent being out for a long period of time. It was just a minor setback. I'm not worried about it." Asked to repeat exactly what the injury was, he said "torn ligament." "I didn't know until the doctors told me (ellipses) last game (on Saturday)," McGrady said. "I didn't know that. I don't think it's anything major. It's nothing." It sounds like something, but for now, was not enough to keep him from practice or the Rockets' next game. "I feel good," McGrady said. "I'm glad to be back on the basketball court practicing. I wanted to play the last game, but the doctors kept me out and gave me the opportunity to have three days of rest."
I'm worried that there is still some discomfort. It's his shooting arm, and McGrady doesn't seem like the kind of player who can play well through injury, even if its minor.
I take this as good news. I can't believe the Rockets would let him play against the Mavs if there was any chance of aggravating the injury and making it a longer term problem. It's too early in the season to take a foolish risk.
Well, we've yet to hear that he's been cleared by doctors to play. T-Mac wanted to play on Saturday too, but the doctors didn't let him.
Jeez, if it's your shooting arm, then stay away from the court until it's 100% healed!! This is your bread and butter, so don't treat this too lightly! Let's focus on the big picture shall we!
Chill guys, a slight torn ligament on the elbow does not need any rest. Usually you practice the a day later, to prevent elbow from being stiff. Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals had one in October this year, and didn't miss a single game after the injury. So it's really not a big deal, I think one week is enough to recover. Yes a slight torn is a little worse than strain, but whatever, no reason to worry right now. We will see how he do on the court, shooting touch is precious for a streaky shooter like Tmac.
Ouch, I tore my ACL and it was horrible. Unfortunatley ligaments do not heal themselves. So if the amount of tear is minimal then he should be fine, but if he needs surgery he may not be the same again for over a year.
if it's the same as yao, he should be fine. yao hasn't missed a game b/c it is on his non-shooting hand right. tmac would be playing if it's on his non-shooting hand. if it's really torn, surgery would have been recommended. and he could have played saturday so it must be minor.
