for the very first time and it is basically to tell Houston to kiss off. Am I the only one who thinks that the only time he'll talk is now just plain sucks?

I say we screw him and Dream by renouncing him. If they want to screw with Houston, good luck getting a ton of money in a straight up signing!

The sad thing is Hakeem will act shocked once he realizes the fans are turning against him in droves. He brought this upon himself. He could have really ended a great career the right way...now he's going to be partially remembered as one of "them"...the greedy, selfish athletes.

I don't want to start a new thread, and this one is as good as any.

Based on the reaction from Fegan, and Dream's actions . . .
    Why is Hakeem leaving?

Is it money? We can pay him the most.

Is it respect? Houston loves Dream, and so does the organization.

Is it Playing Time? Cato and Collier . . . no one's takin' time away from Dream

Is it Winning? Toronto is a better team than we are, but it's not like the Rockets suck.

What is the deal . . . Why is he leaving?

    *****ASSUMING THAT HE IS LEAVING*****

Toronto is not necessarily a better team than Houston.

He's obviously pissed at the Rockets. I think he wanted that original offer to be a bit higher than 4.1 million. I wish the Rockets would just find a way to match Toronto's offer of 3 yrs 15 million. If it means losing Shandon, fine. Still, it's over. [IMG]

So it seems we'll have failed at our top two priorities heading into summer,
We were unable to keep Hakeem
We never even got a shot at Chris Webber, thanks Hakeem.

Is it money? We can pay him the most.

We can but that doesn't mean we will. That has been the key all along. IMO, that equates to lack of respect with Dream.

    Is it respect?

Read the above, but I think he has felt this way for nearly a year now. This is just the first time he's been able to express it outside of demanding a trade.

    Is it Playing Time?

I think it is more about HOW he plays rather than HOW MUCH. Hakeem is convinced he can still dominate in the post. He can't and everyone but Hakeem knows that.

    Is it Winning?

With the weak talent (especially big men) in the East, a move like this could vault Toronto into contention, instantly, in the east. It would give them a big man to match up with Mutumbo and Mourning even if it is only for 25 minutes per night.

    Sad but true.

I disagree completely with this. I think it was not wanting to sit on the bench watching Kenny Thomas and Matt Bullard throw away games in the fourth quarter.

I'm not particularly angry at Dream, just sadly dissapointed.

On the one hand, if/when he leaves it'll truly be Francis' team (and Mobley and eventually Griffin's [IMG]). Francis had some comments about how he and Mobley looked at Dream and wanted to spend their entire careers as Rockets, admiring and praising Dream, soothing his ego. Then he pulls this. His agent says winning. As much as it pains me, if that's the real case he'd go play for LA at the minimum. Or in Philly.

This thing isn't on the Rockets, it's all on Dream/Fegan. At this point, I tell Fegan to go screw himself as far as Shandon goes, and offer Shandon on the cheapside.

I'm really dissapointed in Hakeem for not controlling his own destiny. He's made his own decisions for years, and he's been with this team forever. Does he need an agent? NO. I still wonder on his motivation for getting an agent, and a guy like Fegan no less.

If he doesn't want to be here let him go. The Rockets should only take on players they want to take on. Screw the Montross/Skinner/Stewart garbage. This situation has been handled poorly. If he was on better terms, and this wasn't an ego thing, I wouldn't flinch at maybe taking on a bad contract or two to get Hakeem the most money as a "Thank You". But he's dragged things on, and he doesn't want to be here. I personally think he's lost part of his fire for the game. Until the 13 game stretch, Hakeem looked soulless. He was going through the motions. He wasn't having fun. Maybe he needs a change of scenery. This is just such a sad way for things to end.

Jeff, when Fegan was speaking, did his eyes glow red? Was he wearing a cape, or carrying a pitchfork? Thank in advance.

I tend to disagree when people say he can't play anymore at a good level.Did anyone notice how Rudy used Hakeem in the 4th qt's of the games early on?I did,and it was pathetic to see him on the sideline in the 4th with bullard or kenny thomas or taylor out there with steve, moochie and cat.We all know that he's only going to give you about 30 minutes a night, that's a given. My problem is they were very seldom minutes in the 4th where he could make a difference.Stockton only plays about 30min per,but do you see when Sloan rests him and when he plays him.Thats one of the reason why stockton still avg 12 pts and 9 asst per game.
To me,that was the fault of Rudy and the coaching staff, because even though he's 38,hakeem is still by far our best low post, rebounding, shot blocker on the team.Thats one of the main reasons the Rockets couldn't win consistently in the west.Had Hakeem averaged about 8 min per 4th quarter, like he was in feb and march, the rockets might have won a few more games and made the playoffs.

I always thought that the HBO series "Arli$$" was a comical, over-the-top look at the sleazy, greedy world of agents. I know the series is not an accurate portrayal of agents. However, whenever fegan's name is dropped, I always think of Arliss Michaels. Lately, I've began to think of this whole Hakeem situation as an episode of the show.

I somehow expect fegan (who does not deserve to have his name capitalized) to manipulate Hakeem to sign with Toronto because he lost a client in a poker game or something and owes Grunwald a favor. Sounds Arliss-like to me.

Sadly, fegan would probably take my comparison as a compliment.

It's weird that once Dream leaves the Rockets have to turn right around and deal with Fegan to sign Moochie and Shandon. I hope the both of them just say "get it done" and get it over with quickly.

That is totally unfounded. Olajuwon believed (and, by all reports still does) that the offense should go through the low block and him. Period. That hasn't changed at all.
