And with that, I'm off. Catch you on the back end. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/02/22/national/main20034890.shtml (CBSNews) February 22nd is National Margarita Day 2011. What, you don't think this is a real holiday? Perhaps you are unaware of the drink's great cultural heritage. Or perhaps you just haven't had a margarita yet. Before imbibing the sugary drink, take a moment to reflect on the history of the margarita. According to Robb Walsh, author of The Tex Mex Cookbook, "The margarita is a success with a thousand fathers (and a few mothers.) Among those claiming credit for the original drink's invention are a San Antonio society dame, Mrs. William (Margarita) Sames, who first served her Margarita's cocktail at a party in Acapulco in 1948." While various bartenders claimed credit for the invention of the margarita, it's hard to argue with the woman who gave the drink its name. This original margarita was not the frozen drink that was the number one mixed drink in America in 2008, according to Cheers On-Premis Handbook. The invention of the frozen margarita took place in the 1970s, when an intrepid bartender converted a soft-serve ice cream machine into a margarita mixer. A legend was born. Today, the majestic margarita ranks as one of America's favorite drinks. The U.S. is actually the world's largest tequila market, thanks in no small part to our sweet, frozen beverage. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2gginjKBHEs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
You could have at least told us where you're going! Let's name some places that serve margaritas and will have the game on tonight.... Pugs
I'm about to head to San Leon for some oysters Gilhooley. From there, we will have to see. Atmosphere-wise, you can't fail with going to Cafe Adobe or Chuy's on Westheimer. And the new Lupe tortilla on Shepherd is more "adult-oriented." ie. no sandbox.
Just had a couple Raspberry Margs the other day at Chuys. Good stuff. Also Los Cucos has 1.50 Margaritas all day Monday/Tuesday. Their queso is pretty good.
Isn't Los Cucos right there on Westheimer and Fountain View? $1.50 Margaritas? If they're showing the game in the bar, I'm there!! Pugs
That Lupe's is still full of kids for some reason. They are like a bad case of crabs that you can't shake.
I recommend going to Ninfa's on Navigation. They have a nice new outdoor patio bar that was stocked by one of the guys from Anvil.
I agree about normal margaritas, but I love these: NorCal Margarita - Two shots of Tequila (preferably gold) - The juice from one lime - A splash of Soda Water Shake, serve over ice. You're welcome.
Yup, it's going to be packed. I usually go to the one in willowbrook. If you go, get the stuffed avocado dinner, it's awesome.
