By virtue of their 31-28 win over Albany, Stony Brook gets the pleasure of a visit to beautiful Huntsville, TX.

SBU is 9-3 and on a 9 game winning streak, which includes victories over powerhouses Presbyterian, St. Anselm, winless Charleston Southern, and a 76-28 win over Gardner-Webb. They do appear to have a very good offense, not having scored less than 20 points in any game (a 21-20 loss to Brown). They average 277 ypg on the ground per game, with 2 rushers having gone over 1300 yards each on the season. They don't appear to bother throwing very much. Defensively, they only give up 94 ypg on the ground but 244 passing. They can give up some points.

This is going to be a game that the team that can get going the best on the ground should win. SHSU is capable of putting the ball in the air and being successful. If they can get Flanders going, the play action should open up. SHSU only gives up 59 yds per game rushing. Should be a low scoring affair...but one SHSU should win. SBU hasn't played anyone of this caliber since their season opening losses to UTEP and Buffalo (only because they're FBS teams).

Game is this Saturday, 12/3 @ 2 pm and streaming on ESPN3 (courtesy of DieHard Rocket)

Game is at 2 and it will be streaming on ESPN3. I'm wondering if they might pick it up on ESPN2 but probably doubtful with conference championships going on.

Thanks for the info. I fixed my original post.

No chance they'll be on this weekend. I think the next 3 rounds are televised, though.

I don't know...SB has the highest scoring offense in FCS. And Sam has the 2nd highest. It could very well turn out to be a shootout.

The Sports Network has a bracket projection that has Sam Houston advancing to the championship game and losing to Georgia Southern. No respect for the #1 ranked Bearkats and the only undefeated team in FCS.

I am a UH alumni and I want to say good luck to Sam Houston State in playoff. I hope they win championship and I will support them because of the team named "Houston" in its name.

It's exactly those kinds of games that end up being 13-10.

Announcers at the start of the game:
"With these 2 high powered offenses, we're sure to see a lot of fireworks today!"

By the start of the 2nd half:
"What a defensive battle this has been!"

I was forced to follow the game on my phone. I was getting nervous down 10 to 3, but all year long Sam has been a 2nd half team.

Final score was still a little too close for comfort, but maybe that's what we needed. All the games this year have been comfortable wins. Perhaps a little 2nd half adversity was just what the doctor ordered for the rest of the playoffs?

I agree. It's not going to get any easier with Montana St. Couldn't hurt to remember what it was like to actually have to fight for a win late in the game.
