I’m still very confused about what’s going on here. There was an illegal game of poker going on here, and people were scamming people in that illegal game??? Like is it illegal to scam people if the game is already illegal?? I don’t get it??

Like I get that it’s extremely dangerous for their safety especially if the people they are scamming are mobbed up, but I don’t see why they would be singled out and arrested while everyone else is allowed to go Scott free.

What this seems to be doing is sending a message to not mess with Draft Kings and other sports betting bookies more than anything. Those operations are the ones being looked after here by the feds and “Kash Money”.

Also if the mob is still active and powerful in any way why isn’t Kash Money going after them too???

The amounts of money involved here is actually a pittance really as far as financial fraud goes. Chauncy only got like $50k for helping set people to lose at rigged poker games run by the mob. Some of the victims only lost a few thousand and most no more than 5 figures. Damon Jones only got $2.5k for tipping off a gambler that Lebron won't be playing ahead of time. I think the total bets made on Rozier fixing the game is under $100,000.

While this generates a lot of publicity because of NBA players and coaches being involved, the amount of money is actually very tiny as far as fraud goes. Considering you have recent cases of food stamp fraud where a few individuals stole tens of millions. If NBA players weren't involved no one would really care if some gamblers lost money at rigged illegal poker games.

Yeah sort of seems like we figured it out ourselves. It’s about making an example out of nba players, exerting dominance, and getting publicity.

The sitting president is literally scamming 230 million dollars of tax payer money from the DOJ and that’s just whatever but nba players have to potentially do jail time and have their names tarnished because they scammed a few thousand dollars in an already rigged game that most people playing probably already assumed was rigged. And it’s not like they were stealing chips or something. It’s mostly all about not being exactly correct about a player playing or not when that changes all the time at the last minute in sports.

I never thought we could become a third world country so damn fast. Mob rule is pretty much the only way to describe it.

There was also assistance in prop bets and knowledge of LBJ's injuries before games. Honestly, it's just the tip of the iceberg and is hopefully scaring the NBA into cleaning up this mess.

Oh I know the NBA has a problem with the gambling culture that nearly everyone participates in even if it’s just for the social interaction. We had the Arenas incident that ended up with guns drawn and what did the nba do as a result… a few years later sought to partner with online gambling and make what legal, illegal, and just frowned upon blurry and complicated.

The nba and its leaders on the player side are dumb for allowing themselves vulnerability for a mobbed up authoritarian government to come in and put their knee on their neck.

How much Billups made is irrelevant. One person lost 1.8 million dollars in these rigged poker games. Billups is charged with money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud conspiracy.

If he is convicted he will likely face civil litigation. Who do you think the victims are going to sue? The mob guys or the rich NBA guys?

The game Chauncey was known to be sketch but the high stakes they were playing for are hard to find. I don't know if the pros thought they could beat the edge or they underestimated the extent of the card readers, shufflers, etc. Many players smartly passed on playing but I do feel bad for the scammed.

Also Damon Jones is dumb af. We root for the local guys but this guy is done.

I am not sure I agree about us becoming third world fast. A lot of this stuff isn't new at all. The cheating is more sophisticated but gamblers look for an edge. Cheaters deserve their punishment as they know the risk.

Somehow I feel like Terrance Williams is involved lol.

We can't have players involved in this kind of stuff. Pete Rose got a lifetime ban for betting on games.

That said, it's no surprise this admin is going after the sport that is predominantly black...

And going after the most politically outspoken of the major pro sports. Predictable.

I just don't care, charge em, put em in jail when found guilty, we have much bigger problems in this country with a Pedophile as President.
