whats your favourite college team ? mine is Kansas Jayhawks because they r very good and I just love their players. and the second is North Carolina Tar-Heels (because they signed Felton , McCants andMay . ______________________ mida ?!?!
Maryland. I started likeing them when we drafted Francis, cause he is by far my favorite player so I decided to root for his former team. I was so happy that Juan led MD to the title last season . I just wish that they beat Duke in the Finals instead of Indiana.
Oklahoma Sooners They're a threat to win the title in football AND basketball this year.... they bring back All-America G Hollis Price, along with a great scorer Ebi Ere, great floor leader Quannas White, an incredibly athletic big man in Jabahri Brown, not to mention newcomers Kevin Bookout, DeAngelo Alexander, and Larry Turner....
Same thing with me. My friend liked Duke, so it was pretty hard. I kind of like the Houston Cougars, also.
Football: UT #1.... Basketball: UConn, Cincinatti, Maryland, Oklahoma(blasphemy...but Hollis Price is a badass), UNC with all the new recruits, and of course go UT... I'll also root for Chris Thomas but not Notre Dame, and Ridnour
Of course Kansas is my pick. 1. Have you ever been to Allen Fieldhouse? It's always rated as THE #1 place to watch a basketball event (college OR pro). There's a reason.... fanatical fans, banners, and tradition. 2. Alums galore in the nba that are also rabid KU fans. Pierce, et al, have homes in Lawrence, go to games, help in recruiting, and play pick-up games there yearround. 3. Tradition. KU's first coach was the INVENTOR of basketball (Dr. James Naismith). 4. Team game. No, we don't usually get the high-flying trapese artists that most schools covet. We recruit team players that pass first, shoot second. Even the UCLA legend John Wooden has said that if he had a son, he'd want him to play at Kansas, because it's a team game there. 5. They're easy to like. They, historically, don't get the top recruits like Duke, Maryland, or NC, but always have a strong team, capable of a final four visit. Please note that last year's team, while all McDonald's AA's, were not heavily recruited by the national studs. 6. Their football team sucks. That makes it easy to root for basketball. 7. Low population state. Look, there are more people in Harris County (Houston) that there are in Kansas and Nebraska combined. They have identifiers (KU BBall and NU FBall). Those are some reasons why I love KU bball; plus the fact that I graduated from Kansas and grew up there. But hey, what's not to luv?
I agree with the rest of your post, but come on, kansas historically and especially under roy williams has been on of the best, if not the best recruiting school in the country. They've had ten mc donald's all-americans in the past 10 years, only unc and duke have had more over the same time frame (both with 14). And in the last ten years they've recruited more than maryland, florida, unlv, texas have in their entired histories. They get practically anyone they want.
I like Duke, because everyone feels the need to hate on them. I didn't really care either way for Duke until about the 99-00 season or maybe the 00-01 season. My connection to them is that my sister's ex went to Duke. Their run and gun style of play is why I like them. I would probably like Maryland, if they weren't rivals with Duke. I really can't stand UNC. I don't know why everyone loves them. I couldn't stand them before I liked Duke either. Out west, I like Oregon, although I'm an Arizona State alum. I will even say that I like to watch Arizona play. I hate all Big 10 teams though. They play a football-style of basketball that doesn't appeal to me.
In order my favorite teams and why... 1. KU (see above) 2. OU (Samson's just a damn good guy) 3. Duke (can't help but like them) 4. Florida (recruits are renegades) 5. Temple (Cheaney is irrepressible and does lot's with little) 6. UT (what the hell, I live in Texas) 7. Colorado (Patten's an awesome guy in a tough neighborhood) 8. UNC (KU ties are strong) 9. A&M (uphill battles every year, but on the road to respect) 10. Missouri (Stormin Norman tradition and KU-haters)
Hey, I just noticed that half the teams I like have black coaches; and I'm a middle-aged white guy. Honestly, that fact just occurred. I just like those coaches/teams and don't give a darn about color.
I love Duke basketball...second favorite basketball team behind the Rockets. I've loved UCLA basketball too ever since Reggie went there.
