Which player would you select? http://www.nbadraft.net/ http://www.nbadraft.net/players/derrick-favors http://www.nbadraft.net/players/demarcus-cousins .
I think Favors might pan out to be the better player, however I prefer Cousins because of his great personality. Really down to earth and loveable guy!
It's tough, because Cousins has the size we need. As a player? Favors. If he'd had a better PG while at college, this would be less of a discussion. Given my choice, I'd actually see if I could trade up to about #6 and take Ekpe Udoh. There was an article I saw on h++psw+++d where he's quoted as saying he's going to work out here. He didn't say, "I'm going to work out for Houston, New Orleans, Memphis, Golden State," he mentioned "Houston". Doesn't mean he's just gonna work out for us, of course. But it stands out enough for him. Udoh would be perfect. A couple years older than the rest, maybe, but he made a huge leap skill-wise in the last year. If we want to draft and trade for Bosh with the pick as the centerpiece? Better to ask Toronto or Phoenix which player they want.
IDK... Cousins is so nimble, big and powerfull(yesterday at the draft combine C. Ford mention that Cousins weight in at a full 290, and is completely cut)... not to mentioned skilled!! Some scouts, went as far as to say, that if it hadn't been for his attituted he could have been the 1st pick in this years Draft... With Favors you have a big guy with a solid frame at 6'10 and with athleticism that rivals that of D.Howard, if not surpasses DH when he was his age, but with very raw skill(given that his the youngest player in the draft, only 18yrs old)... However his development will depend on his footwork and other fundamentals he seems to lack... So if I had to put money on who will be the better pro.... I would go with Demarcus Cousins by slightest of margins... --RB
And what if Bosh and Stoudemire decide that they don't want to come to Houston? The Rockets would have traded assets to move up to get a player that they didn't even necessarily want. The Rockets' draft strategy (barring trading down for a future pick to use in a sign-and-trade) will be independent of what players those other teams want. The timing just doesn't allow for any other strategy.
Give me Cousins. All the things I heard about Favors coming out I heard about Tyrus Thomas too. Hopefully, Favors isn't a complacent flake like Tyrus is. If that's the case he'll automatically be better than his worst case scenario types. I just can't help but see a potentially physically dominant center in Cousins when I look at him. If he can get it all together and works hard to improve his game he'll be the better NBA player by a mile, IMO. I mean Cousins > Favors both in general and most certainly from a Rockets standpoint. Favors isn't going to play center and Scola is good enough to start at the four on a championship level team. Not that Yao isn't obviously, but Scola's durability has never even remotely been a question [KNOCK ON WOOD]. Having Cousins backing up Yao and waiting in the wings in the event Yao breaks his foot for the 37th time would be huge.
I've never liked Orton, and I don't like when players throw there teammates under the bus.. This might be on poopsworld but they have actual quotes of Orton so its legit: http://www.***************/Story.asp?story_id=16284
Favors is a good talent to have power forward. But, there's something about having 6,11 290 pound (a nimble and cut 290) who is very athletic, can run the floor, good leaping ability, and has a few good post moves. That even if he only turns out be fairly decent player or give us good production, then we are set at center no matter what happens over the next few years. Again, we've got too many power forwards on this rosters and not true centers, outside of Yao who can be really effective.
Again, people look at measurables before they look at the kids work ethic. In an interview with Draft Express, Cousins was asked, "Would you like to play for Caliperi in the NBA?" He responded with, "*Looks down shakes his head* Haha, I'm not answering that." None of the other players who played at Kentucky this season have nothing but good things to say about Caliperi, Cousins obviously shows dislike towards him, which is why his attitude when he went to the bench was terrible, always back talking, not listening and just tuning his coach out. Sure he is a freak of nature, but the guy is not going to be a coaches favorite. Lazy in practice, and isn't very coachable. Derrick Favors is my pick.
I go with Favors. I don't doubt that Cousins is potentially the more unique player but I don't like the idea of having another Ed Griffin type situation in the end. I'll pass on that and go with Favors.
I love Greg Monroe .. And realisticly we can easily get him .. Detriot really need a Center Whiteside and with some fillers we can get it done ..
http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Analyzing-the-NBA-Combine-Measurements-3477/ cousins - The only concern is his high body fat percentage of 16.3%, which ranks as the 12th-highest figure of any player in our database. By comparison, Mike Sweetney came in at 14.1% and Shaquille O’Neal 12.2%. What’s alarming here is that Cousins is considered to be in the best shape of his life at the moment. Both he and his agent are making a big deal of the fact that he’s been eating as healthy (“seafood and salad diet”) and working out as intensely as he ever has. NBA teams are worried about Cousins resting on his laurels once he’s been drafted and signs a contract. This measurement won’t ease any of those concerns. I have to go with Favors
Saying that Cousins is cut is a bit much. He had one of the highest body fat percentages ever measured at nba combine. And what's this talk that Favors is too small? 6'10.25" in shoes and 9'2" reach is enough size even for 5. He might have to bulk up some but he's already at 245, so not too far away.
