It can't be current generation controllers like the 360's or DualShock 3. For me it's the NES controller. Though this is uncomfortable for today's standards, I still love the simplicity of the design. I have great memories of playing Duck Tales, Ninja Turtles, and Mega Man (which was very difficult, and I threw my controller down in frustration many times. The durability of this thing is astounding) so that might explain why I love it so much. Games nowadays just don't have that personal, lasting appeal to me.
mine would have to be the SNES.... it was a great controller adding tons of buttons and feeling great on your hands... plus the games on snes are badas$
I figured most would post either the 360 or PS3 controllers because they are so familiar, technically advanced, and/or comfortable. Old controllers just wouldn't stand a chance, I think. Btw, the N64 controller was perfect for certain games like GoldenEye and Perfect Dark.
I played SNES so much that I now consider those the normal controls for Street Fighter games, not the 6 button arcade style pads. Insane huh?
Wow in all honesty, nostalgia for games aside, n64 was probably one of the worst controllers. Although the Atari Jaguar probably takes the cake http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Atari_jaguar_controller.jpg
