What's your favorite type of horror movie? I realize that there are many horror movies that fit into several categories at once, or some that are so unique that they are their own genre. I would have broken this down into more choices, but the BBS only allows 10...so feel free to expand on your answers.
I suppose the poll is forthcoming... I'm going with the zombie or George A. Romero genre. No zombie movie genre?
Zombies is my favorite sub-genre, too, but due to poll number limitations, I lumped it in with 'Classic Monsters'.
What'd you think of Land of the Dead?? I prefer zombie movies as well, but to be honest, I'm not too big into the horror genre. Day of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Evil Dead (I&II) were enjoyable, and of course, Shaun of the Dead.
That seems to be the consensus from everyone I talk to...but they're the current favorite at the theaters.
I hate all horror genre in general, I don't watch them at all. If anything I'll watch something that makes fun of them like Scary Movie or Shaun of the Dead.
Classic monsters all the way! My primary choice is Vampires, but I'll settle for just about anything that goes bump in the night!
Horror comedy is a category I had to leave out. Shaun of the Dead was an awesome zombie movie, even though it was a comedy at the same time. Some horror movies are so cheesy that they're laughable. There are some fantastic horror movies that cross genres, like Event Horizon, and Alien...you could very easily call these flicks Sci-Fi, too. In fact, I don't watch horror movies for the scary aspect...I just think a lot of the plots are really original, there is good action and there are good effects.
Horror isn't much of an art form for anyone except the makeup artists. Are we even making horror movies in the US anymore, or just importing them from Japan? Modern domestic horror movies seem made for high school students. Zombie movies are by far my favorite. At least you can say there's usually some loosely attached social message in there. Night of the Living Dead- civil rights Dawn of the Dead- consumerism Day of the Dead- scientific ethics Land of the Dead- haves vs the have nots Not that I watch for the social messages. Survival horror all the way. Sometimes they get deep though. "We're them and they're us."
When was the last time you saw a good vampire movie? I'm achin for one since I first saw Interview with the Vampire. That was more about the people though than high wire stunts. Now it seems like every vamp movie has to be an action thriller. Bah!
I loved it, the social commentary was spot on, the satire was great, the metaphors, the sepration between the haves and have-nots, the rich filth in their towers, the poor fighting the poor, the anarchy, and, although some people didn't like the human-zombie interaction and zombie evolution, I loved it and I think it will be the next step in zombie movie making. I haven't seen Diary. EDIT: Over the weekend I watched Kilómetro 31 or km31 or Kilometer 31, I guess you could say it's the Mexican Ring, loosely based on La Llorona, I recommend it.
