Been on a scary/horror/thriller movie kick of late and have seen some good stuff. I was wondering what people's favorite movies are in this genre.

    Mine are as follows:

    1) The Shining (the Kubrick version)
    2) Psycho
    3) The Ring
    4) The Exorcist (I need to watch this again very soon)
    5) Alien (more Sci-Fi but some very good tense and scary scenes)

    Honorable mentions:
Pet Semetery (one of the scariest but not one of my favorites)
    Carrie (the DePalma one)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original Tobe Hooper one)
It (the TV movie version with John Ritter, Harry Anderson, Tim Curry, etc)
Silence of the Lambs (not really scary, at least to me, but a great thriller)
Se7en (same as Silence of the Lambs)
    The Exorcist III (very underrated)
    Poltergeist
    Jaws

I rented "The Omen" and "Rosemary's Baby" and plan on watching both in the next 2 days. Also, would love to know if anyone has seen "The Changeling", a movie with George C. Scott in it and what you thought about it.

I guess people were more easily scared back in the late 70's. I watched the re-release of The Exorcist and was laughing through most of it...

OK, get the flame throwers ready...I actually liked Gigli :::ducks:::

The only time I've ever really been scared after watching a horror movie was one of the Friday the 13th movies. The one where Jason falls out of the barn onto that big spiked thing. I didn't watch horror movies when I was a kid, though.

Blair Witch was pretty creepy because of the documentary style in which it was made. I kinda looked around when I was taking the trash out later that night after watching it...

Yeah, I remember seeing the preview for the 2nd part. It looked good. Do you remember the name of the movie?

When I was a kid, The Exorcist scared the crap out me.

The Ring spooked me and my wife.

Personally I'm still freaked with the ending of Blair Witch when the camara fell to the ground and pointed at the person in the corner. Say what you will about whether it was realistic or not. That movie scared me.

Remember when House of 1,000 Corpses was called Texas Chainsaw Massacre like 30 years ago?

wow...just wow. Gigli and Blair Witch.

I couldnt even get through Gigli and I gave it an honest try. And Blair Witch completely and utterly stupid..but then again, I thought it looked really creepy BEFORE I found out it was fake. So that could have had something to do with it. To each his own I guess.

    -Halloween
    -Poltergeist
    -Signs

Other notables (but more thriller than scary):

    -Sixth Sense
    -Aliens
    -Saw

    Honorable Mention:

Ju-On ... parts of that were really creepy but the movie as a whole fell short.

Nightmare on Elm Street always gave me the creeps.

Some other good ones that may be in the horror category include: Dead Alive, Frailty, Identity, Session 9

Audition is pretty horrible outside of the torture scene at the end.

The bone sawing is one of the intense scenes I've had the pleasure of watching.

    Jacob's Ladder
Se7en (not really scary, but very chilling)
    the Shining
    the Exorcist
    the Thing (1982)

    Slightly entertaining: Hellraiser movies

Crap = Blair Witch, Friday the 13th movies, Nightmare on Elm Street movies, Halloween movies, Scream movies
