OK, it's 9AM on Monday, and for some weird reason I am having one hell of a craving for hot wings. Might be due to the fact that as I was getting on the freeway at West Bellfort and S. Post Oak this morning, I noticed that a new Wings -n- More is opening in Meyer Park near Orlando Sanchez' old campaign headquarters (on the freeway feeder side). So let me have it....what is your favorite place to get wings? I have always preferred BW3, but I have a funny feeling I will be stopping into Wings -n- More on the way home from work quite often!
I love BW3's sauce but their wings are tiny. I wish they would start buying the large wings like other places. Funny thing about BW's was back in college they had large wings, except on Tuesday's whne they use to have $.15 wing night (which is now $.30). They would purposely sell the small wings on wing day and still had the large wings for the rest of the week. Then at some point they went to all small wings.
The best wings Ive ever had were at The Boat. Used to be next to Tampico Bay on 1960, but they have since closed down. 10 cent wings. And they were good wings at that!!!
I like BW3's the most, but Hooter's isn't too bad every once in a while. I have a real addiction to some Spicy Garlic though. On Saturday I tried a place called Bayou City Wings, which is right next to Fox N The Hound on Gulf Frwy at Fuqua. Do NOT waste your time going there. None of the sauces were very good, and they had the tiniest wings I've ever seen. We asked the waiter if these were mini wings or something, and his reply was "Management is trying to buy cheaper wings so we can make more money, and that is why they are so small." I can't believe he told us that, but needless to say I won't be going back.
BW3 is cool, mainly on the strength of all the different flavors of sauces. You are right about the size of the wings though. They are pretty small. Yet the atmosphere there is really cool. Especially during football season and Rockets games. That is the thing that puts BW3 over the top for me. There is a Wing-n-Things near me, but I really don't like their wings that much. I need to learn how to make my own wings.
WingZone seriously, no place is even close. you don't go there to eat...it's a carryout/delivery place....but the variety of flavors and the size of the wings are just ridiculous.
Is BW3 the name of the place? What about Buffalo Wild Wings? IS that the same thing? Wings and more is good as hell, Wing Stop a close second, Hooters third.
Man I love hot wings and you guys are making my mouth water. Problem is in Beumont there is only one real place to get wings. "Wings to go", the wings are ok but the rest of the stuff they offer stinks. The place has been open for less than a year so before that it was rare for me to get good wings at all. Thankfully a BW3 is opening up in the next couple of months. I will be a frequent visitor there. On the lines of that other question. Why do they use a 3? What is the 3rd W? CK
It used to be called Buffalo Wet n Wild Wings. They changed the name a few years back to just Buffalo Wild Wings.
You are correct, sir. I remember that. I think they changed the name because no one outside of upstate NY knew what the hell "weck" was. (a type of kaiser roll that buffalo sandwiches are made on) BTW: I like my own wings the best of all. I like a light dusting of flour and Tony's seasonging, then I fry them up. Afterwards, they're coated in Louisiana hotsauce and butter. Simple as can be, and they're not near as "bready" as Hooters.
Hooters has the nastiest wings ever. Pole is correct about too much breading. Simply disgusting. For me its BW3's and nothing else is even close.
When I go to Hooter's I always order the wings naked (no breading, roasted instead of fried). I said...I order the WINGS naked, not the waitres...oh nevermind!
Wing Zone is in Austin, on 24th street at San Gabriel, just a few blocks from campus, and right around the corner from Pluckers. Both are great places, but I like Wing Zone better.
