Well, I obviously am addicted to and love this site as evidenced by my obscene amount of posts. So, I was thinking this morning, what's your favorite personal story relating to this site? I have some nominations. First nominee would be meeting Smeg, Heypee, and all the guys at the Smeg World Tour. That was a great time. It led to future tailgating at the DMB show with Mr. and Mrs. Behad and the fun outings with the second World Tour. Another would be seeing Another Brother perform live in Ft. Worth and having him graciously pay for all our drinks and admission. Great guy. I'd also have to say that getting to watch a game at Clutch's house with him and TheFreak was pretty damn cool. Until that night, I didn't have any idea the time and effort that went into this site. However, I think it would come down to two things. I've made no less than three lifelong friends through this board. Friends I know I could call at a moment's notice and they'd help me out in a bind. I think that number is actually higher, more like five or six, but three I know for sure. That's an awesome feeling and downright cool that I met them through a freakin' Rockets' website. That's not including the vast number of fellow BBSers I've met and enjoyed being around considerably, or those who I still want to meet. The second would be me reuniting with my best friend from 4th grade to 12th grade, who I had unfortunately lost significant contact with after high school. Last year, during Katy's run in the state playoffs, hatershaker posted in a thread started about the team. A few posts later, we figured out who we were and the rest is history. We're now roommates and pretty close to best friends like we were before. Now I just have to get in good enough shape so I can start kicking his ass in basketball like I did before. So, what're your favorite personal ClutchFans moments?
Off the top of my head, 1) The FriendlyFan/PinetreeFM60 EXPOSURE 2) The OmegaSupreme stock chart incident 3) The creation of the D&D forum to allow the no-holds barred shout downs that go on there. 4) The fact that this board really helps me to stay in tune with not only top news stories and their related discussion, but also pop culture through the hangout section. Again, on a Rockets website??!?!? Obviously unparalleled coverage of the Rockets and "strong to quite strong" (Meet the Parents reference) coverage of the Astros and Texans.
All great. I always laugh at myself whenever I'm talking with someone not from here and I tell them, "Well, someone on Clutch City (still can't get used to saying Clutch Fans) posted this and that...".
My favorites have been meeting up with RM95 and Buck T. to have mucho cervezas over at BW3 and at Batman Jones' going away party, and also when it was conveyed to me that Buck T. and the bass player in one of the bands I play in are friends and know each other from college.
I totally agree with both of these. Some of my favs this year were YoYao and the "photochopping" and MacBeth's p*rn star. What would I do with out the Clutch BBS?
Awesome. Did you guys win a sweepstakes for that or something? My favorite story was the time we saved Dr of Dunk from the crooked retirement home. Or was that Charles in Charge..?
In no particular order 1. Ft. Worth was cool, it was my pleasure. 2. Drewdog and Pimp, finding that I would be in Austin and coming to the show. 3. Meeting Smeg, very cool for an ugly guy 4. Hanging out with Chance and The Horns, man those guys can drink!I ain't too shabby myself... 5. Anytime HP is in the same room as me we have a good time. 6. Members that came to see me at the Laff Spot and the Comedy Showcase, thanks again. 7. Sir Jackie Chiles finding video of me that I had not. I owe him dinner. 8. Meeting Jeff, great guy. 9. Personal e-mails I get about certain posters, keep 'em coming. 10. Meeting Tim.
my personal favorite was sitting down next to RocketRich NYC at a Nets game in Continental Airlines arenas and figuring out who we were on the message board. the new york rocketball association was born out of cf.net like someone said before, this is my main source for information. someone asks me, "how did you get the Paris Hilton tape?" "On the Rockets message board, of course!"
I've never met anyone from this site but there are tons of people here that I would like to meet. Going back and forth with you people is so much more fun than talking to the stiffs I work with. I guess that's why I post so much. Here are some of mine: -Jamming with Jeff's band was pretty cool. Wait, I guess I have met someone from this site. -My "quitting drinking" thread a few months ago. I thought I'd get a bunch of sarcastic responses but I was pleasantly surprised to get mucho support. I'm still sticking to it. Besides a glass of wine at Thanksgiving, I haven't had a drink since September! -A significant upgrade in my musical taste. Without this website, I wouldn't be listening to DMB, My Bloody Valentine, or my latest obsession Death Cab for Cutie. Lots of other bands I can't think of right now. -Lot's of great workout tips. I used to be a weakling. Not anymore. -Of course, lot's of great Rocket talk.
Obviously, the smeg thing was great. It was weird, neat, and surreal all at the same time to meet some of the people off the board. Talking to guys like Fatty, TJ, Antisonic, Smeg, The Cat, HP, Pimp, RM95, Sonny, Rockets2K, etc, made it worthwhile to come to Houston. I'll never forget when Jeff and me first arrived at HP's. I was wearing my Miami Hurricanes fitted baseball cap and this sorta tough looking dude looks at me and says "Hey, Manny come over here!" I was so nervous that I approached this burly fellow (looked like he could have been a bouncer ) and said, "Hi, I'm Manny Ramirez." He looked at me and said, "Yea, we know, that is why we called you over here." The guy who called me over was Rockets2K. Also, getting to meet Jeff and his wife was great as I have not met 2 finer people than the Balkes. They are the best. And meeting ROXRAN when he was in LaVergne (just outside of Nashville) was really cool. I was sad when he decided to go back to Houston but we have stayed in touch (well at least he has as I have been too lazy to call him ). But yeah this board is great and as sad as this is going to sound, I can't imagine what my life would be like without it.
Provocative. Very provocative. The cadre exists offline, I see. It has to be the Smeg World Tour. I went to the rec Bball game and to HeyPee's for brisket. Couldn't make the nighttime activities. Meeting so many of you in person was a small but great moment in time. I still wear my T-shirt and it raises questions... "What's a Cuttino?"
To elaborate, when YoYao posted his picture on the "Are You Hot?" thread. People here took that picture and ran with it.
Mine is quite personal but has to deal with a few people on this board. I will never forget the outpouring of love and concern from all on this board after 911 when my wife and I were on Vacation in Martha's Vineyard. Many people on here, Jeff, RM95, heypartner and several others became quite concerned after a few days on the BBS after 911 when I wasn't posting (because they knew I lived in New York). People I've never met actually tried to track me down and make sure I was okay! People I've never met before. I'll never forget that. Even Pops hiring a detective here in New York to track me down (or so he says).
dude...we were seriously worried. i can't imagine losing one of our own, much less a family member. i was honestly thrilled and elated when you reported back.
I do that to. My family refers to the collective members of clutchfans as "those internet weirdos". I guess my favorite personal stories (ie those thing related to this site, but not posts on this site) were meeting RM95, vengeance scoring me DMB tix, and getting an e-mail out of the blue from Mango when I thought nobody even noticed me around here (I guess I don't have great self esteem )
This certainly can't be beaten for me either, hands down the best Meetig Yall (twice) was an amazing experience that when you tell non CC.net BBS people about, they say it could have potentially gone horribly wrong..... this my honeymoon, I would no longer be living if it had gone wrong. Everybody i met was great, but obviously the big highlight was eventually meeting in person after years of emails and phone calls to Behad and HeyPartner and then staying with them in Houston.... amazing people. Meeting R2K, RM95, R03, Codell, Lynus, FattyFat, Mango, AntiSonic, Pimp, Drew, Hot-Princess, Cat, the un-funny AB, Batman, Rockhead and everybody else was unbuckinbelievable. Meeting Cuttino is obviously another highlight of the trip and also going to a Rockets Fan Council meeting was great, especially the dude from the Rockets saying "Ohhh you're Smeg from Australia" and then Behad driving thru the Rockets car park boom gate on the way to the game afterwards was a big laugh and the roadkill incident still makes me laugh everytime i think about. The people is what makes this place senasational, online everybody is great and they are better with personal emails, but nothing beats meeting, drinking, eating, talking, laughing and watching ball with GREAT people..... thanks everybody..... the best thing was you start calling people by their real names, meeting their partners, friends and families..... what a great experience, now just waiting to see who returns favour and comes visit me downunder (HeyP has pledged to visit before i turn 30 woohoo)
