I've been watching this thing on ESPN Classic, and they finally made it to 1996. The ATL games. I think the best part of the games are the opening ceremony. That's cool. I like how a bunch of the countrys parade and stuff. They're showing Holyfield coming out of the tunnel, and they run it to that swimming chick, and then the swimming chick passes it to Ali. That was pretty damn cool. She runs it up not knowing who is going to light the torch. Then from out of the shadow, comes ali who lights it up. That was neat to see Ali. And yes, I am still bent that we did not get the US bid for the Olympics. New York shouldn't get it, hell, they don't want it.
My fav moment, was when that sprinter, Redman was his name I think, pulled up lame during his event. But he insisted on finishing and limping to the finish line on one leg. Then, his father came out of the stands, pushing his way through security, and helped his son cross the finish line. It doesn't get any better than that. Almost made me cry ..........
He probably got disqualified, right? Guys, I am so much looking forward to the olympic games...soccer world cup and olympic (summer) games are real highlights...
Dude, I am not THAT old . But I have seen video footage...amazing performance in the face of an ideology that thought everyone but what they perceived as the "Aryan race" in their f-ed up heads was inferior. Jesse Owens had a lot of fans in Germany, I remember watching reports about him when I was a kid.
Canadian men and women's hockey teams winning gold...and donovan bailey setting then world record in the 100 metres.
Winter Olympics is so boring. Except maybe for Men's Hockey. And curling, what the hell is that? Come to my kitchen and do that.
I don't remember. And thats what was great about it. I doubt anyone remember who even won that race or who lost or who was disqualified. It didnt matter. Theyll always remember that moment.
The U.S. Olympic Hockey Team "Miracle" but I also remember being 12 years old and having a crush on Nadia Comenieci (or howerver you spell her name)
Kathy Freeman winning in Sydney was moving in a way. But my Favorite memory is eating all that McDonalds food in 1984. Aaaaaahh! Good Times.
my first olympic memory is the 1980 winter olympics. I wanted to be a speed skater like Eric Heiden...and i had never seen skates in my life since i was 8 and lived in Houston. Roller skating was in back then, and I made my mom buy me a pair so I could skate in my driveway like Heiden.
The 96 women's gymnastics team was great. I remember getting goosebumps at what they did back then. It was cool.
