Your favorite movie does not necessarily have to be the one you consider the best, but it can be. For example, you might associate a favorite movie with a "best time of your life" or have some other reason for it being your favorite, whereas you may consider the best movie of all time as one that has had the most significant impact on society, the most popular, etc.

So, what's your fave and what's the best?

Favorite: Taxi Driver- multiple reasons- favorite acting performance, first movie I remember seeing that made me think, the way it's filmed, because I used to live in New York, etc.

Best: Casablanca- if I had to recommend a movie to someone as an example of the best, it would be this. Well-made, compelling story, excellent acting, strong cultural impact, entertaining, etc.

I would define "Best Movie" as the movie I most enjoy, and favorite movie the same way. So the answer to both is, The Empire Strikes Back.

Apocalypse Now is pretty much my Catcher in the Rye of films.

But the two best IMO are Casablanca and Citizen Kane.

While Kane is so ahead of it's time and the story surrounding it is greater than fiction.Casablanca has it all.If I'm bummed in goes Bogey.
    Curtiz directing
    Bogart,Ingrid Bergman,Pail Heinreid,Sydney Greenstreet,Claude Rains,Peter Lorre,Conrad Veidt.Dooley Wilson

Many patriotic films were made during this time, but none come close to this masterpiece.

On the other hand Orson Welles, boy genius... took on the establishment(Hurst) and it destroyed his career. The man was flat out the best director of all time and is EXTREMELY underrated as an actor.

I don't think it was until the 50's that Kane started to appear on the top lists.Kane didn't win and was systematically booed at the academy awards.Talk about being blackballed!

^ I'm very dissapointed Dr. Strangelove that you didn't even mention your namesake in the best or favorite category.

I like the idea of your favorite vs. the best its kind of like comparing a meal at 5 star Michelin restaurant vs. Whataburger. You know one is the best but you would prefer to eat more often at the other.

T2- Great sequel that rewards fans of the original. The special fx influenced future movies, and you could tell the action scenes were planned in good detail to have the right effect.

Best movie- Godfather- Family dysfunction done right. Great male acting, decent pacing, and tons of details for the watcher to absorb.

    Casablanca is the best.

    Excalibur is my favorite

I could spend a whole weekend watching either.

Strangelove is hard to compete with his taste in movies. But since I have actually appeared in the plays that the movies were based on...every once in a while I strike gold.

I know, especially since Kubrick is my FAVORITE director atop,Huston.Hitch,Spielberg,etc.
Gotta say though that Spielberg has quite a resume with more to come.
He like the others have changed film.

Strange that, but among the varying degrees of greatness/favs wre're talking about I have to admit my weakness for 1 (Redux)....and as far as my two best...no way I could change them.

It's so tue about the meal deal. :D

    So was yours Dr.Strangelove?or others?

    Best movie: All Time: Titanic.

Y'all have no idea how much true history on that ship was there. If you knew, and didn't have some whiny b**** send you there, then you need to rethink your manliness.

    YOU HAVE NO IDEA!

    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SWksEJQEYVU&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SWksEJQEYVU&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Titanic, was, by far, the best historical movie ever made. Y'all missed out on soooo many historical accuracies that were in the film, up to and including the Chef being on the top of the ship when it went down. I'm not a fan of the "romance" story with Jack and Rose, either, but the rest of it was complete historical imagery of what actually happened.

ie. you have 3 hours left? How do you handle it. Some men were complete men, others were complete p*****s. I'm sorry, but to me, this is the most historically accurate movie I've ever seen. As I've told people, pay no mind to the two dumbass characters, and watch the rest of the show. Cameron did a damn good job of recreating nearly everything that has been recorded.
