I don't know if anyone remembers, but mine would be when Yao scored his career high 41points in a 3 OT game against Atlanta. I remember Yao hitting the game winning fadeaway against a double team with about 30 secs left and thought to myself, "Damn, he's gonna be the best big man in the game." 41pts, 16rebs and 7ast in only his sophomore year. Just watching Stevie and Yao playing again brings tears to my eyes. My favorite moment was the behind the open court behind the back dribble to shake off the defender for an open lane easy 2 against portland
For me, undoubtedly, my most memorable moment was the feeling of excitement after the Game 2 win in '05 against the Mavs. Moreso than winning the series, it was the feeling that noone could really stop both of these guys in combination. Magic came on shortly after with his now infamous "they remind me of myself and Kareem." It felt like we would have something special in Houston for a very long time. Three years of injuries, mileage, and poor managerial decisions later, we're no closer than where we started and the window is near closing. I really hope McGrady and Yao can atleast give us a glimpse of that limitless potential this season.
I loved the way Yao schooled Shaq and scored 29 points on him. I also liked Yao's first big NBA game when he scored 30 against Dallas. That was the first glimpse that we got of our new big man.
1. Trading Mobley and SF3 for Tmac 2. 22 game streak 3. 13 in 33 4. Sura's "3" finger watever 5. Yaos "you can't fckin stop me" 6. Yao's behind the back dribble fast break when he was wearing the throw back jerseys 7. Yao's first game 8. lol, yao getting his ankles broken by Marbury (karma has haunted starbury since and made him terrible) 9. Game winners by Head (rookie season I think against GSW) Novak (kings) Battier (LAL) And of course... 10. Getting rid of J-Ho's contract for Mike james which lead to bobby jackson, which should lead to Mike Miller.
While we're on the subject on memorable game-winners.. can't forget Scott Padgett's off-balance game-winner against the Knicks! I remember he followed up a few games later with like 7 3's against the Kings. Boy was cold... our 2004-2005 Steve Novak (tall white boy that can't play defense and can only shoot)
...accept he could rebound when needed and had a much higher bball IQ. Is this thread to discuss the moments since we drafted Yao or the actual Yao era? Technically his era is just starting, he's only been our best player for a couple years.
