Just watched Ong-bak: The Thai Warrior last night, was pretty amazed at all the things Tony Jaa did in that movie. Fight scenes were pretty well-choreographed and overall just amazed at his inventiveness... Was curious if the board has some martial arts flicks they'd recommend with some great fight sequences. Comedy is ok too, like Shaolin Soccer.
5 Deadly Venoms Project A II. Any of the Lonewolf and Cub movies if those count. The Chinese Connection. Once upon a time in China II. Super Cop - subtitle version only. These are not in any order, and there are some definite films I've omitted.
nice calls on the Iron Monkey! loved that movie. Also on Five Deadly Venoms...my favorite kung fu flick of all time. Toad Style owns.
The Protector with Tony Jaa is insane (I think that's the title). The "bonebreaker extravaganza" scene alone is incredible.
Not a big kung fu flick guy...and I know this one is a complete laugher in the kung fu circles...but I always enjoy re-watching Kung Fu Hustle.
All Kung Fu/Martial Arts Movies lists start and end with "Enter The Dragon" as #1 and no more, no less. Else, it's the one with that guy that swings his long braid... ----------------------------------- Interesting... OK. THEN ??? What gives, WOMAN? Make up your mind already!
Seconded for Iron Monkey - very fun flick Crouching Tiger is very good when it is actually doing the fighting Super Ninjas Five Fingers of Death One-Armed Boxer vs Flying Guillotine SuperCop (and yes on the dubbed version, good call) But the all time best kung fu movie is Dragon Fist, one of Jackie Chan's very few 'serious' roles, in which he plays basically a tormented haunted badass who is thrown into a lose-lose situation, and it is just awesome. Don't get the DVD, find the videotape version, it is properly made, the DVD is totally screwed up. I enjoy House of Flying Daggers Basically if Yuen Wo Ping did the action, it is going to be pretty awesome. And there are a few on the horizon coming up that he is involved with which look incredible.
1 joke. 1 that i loved. 1 is my favorite. Didn't think it was that hard.... and Enter the Dragon is my most favorite.
Kung Fu Hustle is a very fun movie, one of my favorites in fact. It would have been better in my opinion if they had actually let the Kung Fu greats in that movie actually get to strut their stuff a bit more. The guys in Pig Sty Alley all got killed way too fast, those three together could have carried a whole movie all by themselves.
my friend loaned me ong-bak and another tony jaa movie called the protector a few months ago - not a big martial arts film buff, but both those movies blew me away. you should check out the protector too - its kind of the same overall story as ong-bak, but he travels to syndey, australia in this one and it looked like it probably had a bigger budget. also, the sidekick from ong-bak is in the protector, but playing a totally different character than the low-life he was in ong-bak. but the best part is this one scene where tony jaa fights his way up this huge rotunda staircase - it was almost like a homage to bruce lee fighting his way up the levels in game of death. its like a 5 minute sequence, but the most amazing part is that its one continuous shot - i watched it 3 times to make sure, but they pulled off this insanely intricate scene in one take. i dont know how many times they had to shoot it to get that one scene, but its flawlessly choreographed. my friend who i turned onto those movies told me a couple weeks ago about another movie called chocolate by the same director - tony jaa isnt in it, but he says its more insane than even his stuff - its about an autistic girl who can instantly master martial arts techniques and starts kicking ass.
One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen is "Hero" I'm more of an old school kung fu guy but I think that film stays true to classic kung fu films
Chocolate is probably the greatest movie ever made, and how can you not root for an autistic girl beating the crap out of people, very inspirational stuff... <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VoccbDV5NOI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VoccbDV5NOI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
Enter the Dragon, Hero, House of Flying Daggers... there's actually quite a few very good ones made over the years...
