Admit it, you know it's a guilty pleasure that can't be denied! Everyone has been into, at one point or another, kung-fu movies. Maybe not so much now becuz your "significant other" thinks it's for kids(like comic books), but when you're able to, you go rent one just to get your fix! Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon captured the feel of the good old movies, which I still prefer, but movies like The Drunken Master, The Kid With Golden Arm, and my all-time fav: The Five Deadly Venoms made for great Saturday morning viewing! There were something about those films(like the BAD voice overs) that was just so addictive! So which movie is your favorite?! HIYAAA!!!:D

CTHD is OK. I liked once upon a time in China. But the best is probablly the one you didn't see: New Dragon-Gate Hostel.

Yeah, your right, the selections are limited where I go to rent. If you're in Houston, where do you suggest I can go to rent where there is more of a selection? AND which movies would you recommend(give me your top ten or something), that'd be great!
    :)

    Great thread!!

    Jackie Chan in Killer Meteors

    Other great martial arts movies:

    Enter the Dragon
Bloodsport - yeah it's Van Damme cheesy, but there are some good fight scenes
The Last Dragon - Bruce Leroy kicks some Sho'nuff butt
    Black Belt Jones
American Ninja - cheesy Americanized karate flick

I wish I could remember the other thousand chop saki flicks I religiously watched every Sunday afternoon as a kid.

This guy's site has alot of movie names

You can always find a HK video store in CHina town. Some of the flicks I liked:
Jackie chan: Drunk marster (very early film)
Police story (1985) two sequels afterward
Jet li: Shaoling Temple (1982) the very first movie of Jet li after years of rigorous kungfu training. The film is also known as the start of "new" HK kongfu movie. It turns into a trilogy.
Once upon a time in China (1990), storyline isn't that good, but the fighting gets better.
(New) Fang shiyu. Story about a young legendary fighter.

    Other:
New Dragon Gate Inn (1994). A pioneer of the CTHD genre. The actress is very good, and final fight scene is one of the best.
Other early classics with bruce lee.

Most of these titles you can find them on DVD too.
here is a random UK site for DVD, I don't know if they are actually good.

When I was a kid, I used to watch all those bad kung-fu movies that were shown on the weekends...can't remember one name now tho...

Of the ones I do know, my choices are pretty standard.

    Any Bruce Lee movies...
Enter the Dragon being my fav..

and I like most Jackie Chan movies..Drunken Master was cool..

and as mentioned already..Bloodsport is one I like...

I don't understand Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon... but I did enjoy the fight scenes..

Drunken Master (and Legend of Drunken Master, or DM 2, was not bad, either)
    Iron Monkey
    Fist of Legend
Fong Sai Yuk (I think it is called "the Legend" in English).
The Blade (despite the fact that parts of it are near impossible to understand)

My favorite Kung-Fu movie was Jacki Chan's Project A II. But it has to be seen with subtitles. I saw the dubbed version and it wasn't nearly as funny. It also has my favorite Jacki Stunt - Him falling down the bamboo scaffolding. And at the beginning they show the greatest stund from Project A - The one where he basically just falls a few stories off of a building.

Old school Kung Few movies I've seen I can't remember all the titles.

I do remember Kid With Golden Arm, and a movie called something like Norther Kicks and Souther Fists.

    Five Deadly Venoms

Iron Monkey. You have got to see this movie!!! I don't know if any of you who are 'Once Upon a Time in China' fans but 'Iron Monkey' is a prequel to those films.

I love em and after several years of persistence I've even got my wife liking them :D

First on my list would be all Bruce Lee....but I guess thats true of most fans of the genre.

-Fist of Legend - Jet Li..Sort of a remake of The Chinese Connection. The final showdown in this is one of the greatest fight scenes ever filmed.

-Iron Monkey-Donnie Yen..Love the fight scenes in this movie and the tie in with the "Once upon a time" series is pretty cool.Something interesting is that the kid who plays the young Wong Fei-Hung is actually a girl.If you haven''t seen this movie ...go get it NOW.

-Twin Warriors-Jet Li,Michelle Yeoh...I love this movie.Good story but more importantly great fight scenes.

-All of the Once upon a time movies..I'm not sure how many of these there are but I've seen 5.These are the ones that my wife first started liking.

Anyone remember when channel '39' showed that 3-D Kung Fu movie? I believe you had to pick up the 3-D glasses at 7-11.

He wasn't...Donnie Yen played his father, though...in an odd way (going into the Once Upon a Time in China series).

    DARO,

I scoffed at Twin Warriors (when I first saw the title) until I realized that it was actually Tai Chi Master renamed.

Thanks for the info! BTW/ was Jackie Chan's "Drunken Master" a re-make of "The Drunken Master" I saw as a kid growing up in the early 80s? It definitely wasn't Jackie starring in it.....
