Here's my take.. Breyer's - makes some decent "specialty" flavors and combinations.. but overall average. the texture is some of the best, too. Dreyer's - best diet ice cream on the market, imo. not quite as diverse of a porftfolio of flavors. the slow churned line is nothing to write home about, either. Ben and Jerry's - my personal favorite. the flavors are hit or miss, but the ones that i like i absolutely love.. to the point where i have to avoid the damn ice cream isle in the store. the consistency and texture are great. Blue Bell - i hate it. absolutely hate it. the only kind i can stand is cookies n cream. everything else sits in my mouth like a rock. it tastes bland and the texture is like eating a piece of clay. Häagen-Dazs - a solid second or third. the flavor selection is lacking but its all pure quality and there's few kinds i don't like. good texture too.
blue bell - if you are a texan and claim anything else than you are a traitor! there are only a couple ben and jerry's flavors i like - sometimes i think the icecream gets overlooked. if i want fudge pretzels ill get fudge pretzels - when i buy icecream i want icecream! godiva icecream is awesome too - white chocolate raspberry is to die for. dreyers dreamery line is awesome too (but i think its discontinued) - new york cheesecake and blueberry white chocolate. hagen das is good too - they have one called mayan chocolate - got a nice cinnamon kick too it - plus its got human hearts! ...mmm sacrilicious!
I like Blue Bunny...just cause it's cheaper than Blue Bell. I have been dying to try Ben and Jerry's new flavor "Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream"
We have a friend whos family owns Blue Bell. She said that there are people out there who will pay $250 to have Blue Bell shipped to them. I'd say that makes it some pretty decent ice cream. I do miss the wooden spoons though. I had her get me a dozen of the old ones because they don't make them anymore.
in terms of going out and getting a single serve of ice cream i prefer coldstone. at home ice cream i like thrifty/rite-aid
Blue Bell Homestyle Vanilla is the best ice cream to use as a base for making a malt, in my opinion. Best ice cream in general? Go to Italy.
Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia is the best. I actually prefer the low-fat frozen yogurt to the regular Ice Cream version. It's still bad for you -- but I like the taste of the frozen yogurt better than the Ice Cream for some odd reason. I think it's the only "low fat" or "non fat" item I genuinely prefer to the original.
I'm with ya Donny, I wont eat Blue Bell.. I like Dryers/Edys better than 90% of the other ice cream out there.. Anyone try the imported gelato that HEB is selling? The dark chocolate flavor is crazy delicious the only downside is it’s kinda pricy 5.00 for a few pints worth, but damn worth it..
Blue Bunny has basically cornered the market on the no-sugar/diet ice creams. I figure most people who like blue bunny probably only eat diet ice creams.. they're not picking by taste so much as they're picking by calories..
Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip is a special and unique concoction. Normally I'm all about Ben and Jerry's Pistacio Pistacio or Cherry Garcia, but every now and then I absolutely need the Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip.
