Just thought of this because someone was asking about a song named after a town. See, back in my childhood, we didn't have VCRs. If you liked a movie, your folks would buy the Soundtrack. We had Winnie the Pooh, The Ruscuers, and Pete's Dragon. My brother and I can still recite lines from those movies from the umpteenth time we listened to them. (no TV for us kids except Saturday & Sunday mornings.) My favorite goes to Pete's Dragon. It's a kids movie, but I still think it holds up; especially the songs.
Oh man, I remember watching Pete's dragon a ton when I was a kid, even have the LP. The opening scene of Sweeney Todd where Borat is selling the hair gel reminded me of that scene. Is the remake any good? I seem to recall hearing it was supposed to be pretty decent. I remember Labyrinth and Goonies were a couple of favorites that left a big nostalgia impression on me.
Willie Wonka, the original , not that crap with JD To this day if I am surfing and its on I stop and watch. A Christmas Story and Its a Wonderful Life are a close second
I didn't like musicals as a kid so that precluded a lot of Disney movies of the time. I did love Dumbo, though, and it came on once a year on ABC (I think). I was more into Saturday morning cartoons than anything else, and the shows like Johnny Quest, Hecruloids and Thundarr were my favorites along with the early Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. I did like Pete's Dragon but I think I only saw it once or twice. I gravitated to lots of fantasy or sci-fi movies, and I remember going to see the first Star Wars and Clash of the Titans as a young boy, and those really made an impression on me. The rotoscoped 'animated' Lord of the Rings movies were good but weird and I think they had a lot of singing too, which was a turnoff for me. Do the Charlie Brown holiday specials count? I loved those.
Star Wars. I was the perfect age when that movie came out. It changed my life. My parents were divorced and my dad used to come pick me up every other weekend. If we didn't go to an Astros or Rockets game, we would go see Star Wars at the Meyerland Theatre. I kept tabs on how many times I saw it so I could brag to my friends. A few others come to mind that I watched over and over again when cable TV first came onto the scene: Smokey and the Bandit Cannonball Run Over the Edge (classic teen angst movie)
In no order, trying to make the cutoff under the age of 10: Time Bandits Star Wars Secret of Nimh Dark Crystal Beastmaster Smokey and the Bandit Cannonball Run Alien Krull Under the Rainbow Raiders of the Lost Ark Jaws
Blooper reels from the Canon Ball Run movies are great. The first Cannon Ball Run should be required viewing
See above. Plus Karate Kid, Rocky, Popeye w/ Robin Williams, and some Grizzly Adams movie. And of course, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. All with people that are with me in spirit now.
The young attorney I just hired chimed in with ...... "A Night in Paris" I haven't seen it, but I too like to travel and it sounds like a good flick.
Goonies and Neverending Story are a bit nostalgic, but I prob can't sit through the whole thing. Princess Bride is still rewatchable.
