I know Y'all think I'm going to post one of the regulars, but my favorite was always that french guy Henry (eeenrie).

This guy always had me in stitches! I'm watching an old episode, and he still cracks me up. Woody. Knock knock. who's there? I'm going to steal your girlfriend! Haha.

If y'all haven't seen him, you need to watch. He's hilarious!

    Any other favorites?

maybe too obvious but i gotta go with sam. so many damn great moments.

close second to frasier. his emergence made that show stay great all the way to the end.

of course all the characters are great and there are so many good episodes. woody's wedding being the best episode in tv history. unfortunately nick at nite just started over at the beginning so now i have to watch the early years which are not nearly as good. once woody and frasier come on board then it really takes off.

tied with the simpsons as my favorite series ever.

fran4prez... you know that channel 39 plays cheers episodes at 12:30 and 1:00?

You just missed the 200th episode there. Of course, this only counts if you live in Houston.

    My top 10:
    1. Henry (if you know me, you'll know why)
    2.Norm
3.Sam-Damn if, when I was a teen, I tried to emulate this guy)
4.Cliff He is still hilarious in any episode
    5.Frazier
    6.Coach
    7.Woody
    8.Paul- WHY am I never invited??/ Bah!
    9.Diane
10.Reblecha (ugh! stick to pier 1, babe!)

Astro: I stand corrected. Carla beats out Reblecha!

She had some decent comments, but I would have a hard time finding anyone saying she is their favorite. Just my opinion, tho.

Word, pasox. Cliff was the balls of that show. Great show, doesn't hold up really at all these days, but Cliff Clavin still cracks me up. Great actor. Wonder what happened to him.

    Duh, Norm.

Take one character away and you lose the whole show? Norm.

Incidentally, isn't there a Norm at every bar? He gave the show its ambience.

really, not at all? i certainly don't feel like i'm watching a typical goody two shoes 80's comedy (cosby, family ties, other stuff) or any other factor that makes older shows seem so dated. it has it's moments, but for the most part it seems like it's held up quite well. if there's someone who doesn't like a lot of the old stuff that used to be on tv (probably b/c i'm 21 and it was all before me), it's me, but i love cheers.

    Sam.

Initially, off the top of my head, I said "Norm," great writing, great lines, great acting; but Ted Danson did it both ways.

His acting made the charcter both pitiable and admirable. And by "pity," I mean, "what a poor sap!" And by admirable, you mean, "MY HERO!!!!"

He had it both ways, because of his talent. Love the show, love _every_ show, and he's the man. Norm, Carla, Coach, Woody, Cliff ... everyone had great lines that they executed perfectly. But Malone/Ted ... he pulled it off.

And, of course the show is dated. It's a sitcom. Remember the Sports Guy's bit?

"Cheers is like MJ. There WILL be another MJ. He's the best ever, but there WILL be another MJ. Seinfeld is like Larry Bird. He's not the best ever, but there will never, ever, be another Larry Bird.:

I pretty much never missed Cheers when it was running, and I still love to watch it in re-runs. But, in my opinion, it doesn't match up with the greatest old timey sitcoms like All in the Family, Taxi, Barney Miller or MASH. Not to mention I Love Lucy or The Dick Van Dyke Show. It's up there though. Higher, to me anyway, than a thousand others. Just not as high as my favorites. A little overrated, I think. Compared to these above. I'd put it on par with The Jeffersons, which was also a great sitcom.

I'd have to go with Norm as the best character. He's a man's man.

There was always something about Paul that cracked me up too. Remember the episode where he banged Carla? What a pimp. :D

I have a hard time choosing among Norm, Cliff, Sam, and Woody.

The episode where Woody starts singing to Kelly still has me rolling...

    Kelly, kelly, kelly, kelly, kelly, K... E... L... L... Y...

    Why?

Because you're kelly, kelly, kelly, kelly, kelly, kelly of mine....

Mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine...

    So idiotic but funny.

Do you eat beans while watching movies with George Wendt?
Would you watch George Wendt in a bean eating movie?

I dare somebody to tell me where THAT'S from...
