I don't eat cereal much anymore but my parents have turned me on to crunchy raisin bran it. I love it. My mother didn't buy the brands geared towards children, my biggest treat was drinking the milk after dumping a bunch of sugar in my Rice Cruspies but every now and then I was treated to Captain Crunch With Crunch Berries, by far my favorite growing up
I was never really into that dyed sugary **** as a kid. I mean, I would have some here and there, but I ate more Life than anything. If you were patient and allowed the little squares to soak up just the right amount of milk it was acceptable. If not, the box it came in probably tasted better. Sometime in my teens my grandmother turned me on to Raisin Bran. All too often the raisins were hard and stale, but it was probably the best cereal around. That is until the versions with nuts came about. (I remember All Bran, too, but that was gross in those days.) Those little packets of oatmeal with the cinnamon were pretty good if you added raisins or a sliced banana. The greatest thing of all though was my grandmother's homemade bread. She sliced it thick and it made the greatest toast I've ever had. You all have no way of knowing this, but my grandmother was the GOAT. I can still remember her telling me, "breakfast is the main meal of the day." God do I miss her dearly. My other grandmother was special as well. She made the best milkshake I ever had and took me to countless restaurants for breakfast, but I didn't see her as often.
My parents only bought the "healthy" cereals like Bran Flakes, Wheat Chex, Raisin Bran, etc. So of course I would add a ton of sugar on top and go to town. My after school routine was to grab a big bowl of cereal, pile on a gallon of sugar, then go up to my room and listen to my albums until dinner. Good times.
Raisin Bran is probably why I can't eat desserts with raisins in them. Just a gross combo to me. I do like raisins by themselves or in trail mix.
Cocoa Krispies (stuff made the best chocolate milk) Apple Jacks (unique flavor that I still love to this day) Raisin Nut Bran (the coated raisins rocked) Golden Grahams (Aldi has a version called Honey Grams that are even better)
Frosted Flakes, Cocoa Krispies, Froot Loops, etc. But I kicked those to the curb as a kid, and for some reason became addicted to Cheerios, Raisin Nut Bran, Raisin Bran, etc. I don't eat cereal anymore. About the closest thing I eat to it nowadays is probably steel cut oats. lol.
We did not do sugar cereals when I was a kid, this is what I got: Flakes (Special K or Total and whatever) Grape Nuts Honey Nut Cheerios Frosted Mini Wheats Cracklin Oat Bran
Cold cereals: Cap'n Crunch Quisp Froot Loops Raisin Bran Kellog's Frosted Flakes Since most cold cereals are really just fortified cookies, I stopped eating them completely. Sometimes I buy Fiber One. Hot cereals: Grits Oatmeal Cream of Wheat Stopped eating all of these too.
Man, I was at a friend's house and his kids had some capn cucnh mixed berries. I made me a bowl. Hadn't had cereal in forever. Smashed that bowl and then went and bought me a box for myself. Smashed that in like 3 days. I'm probably good for another 8 years now. It was delicious though.
