I just moved down to Houston in December and I really like going to Brian O'Neills in Rice Village. Awesome bar and there are always cute girls there. I also like the Boaka bar but it gets a little yuppie for me.
For clubs, I like 410 downtown, and 7 in Midtown. For bars, I like the Marquis (except the smoke in that place is ridiculous), Zimms on Montrose, and the Social. For "other" entertainment, Treasures and the Men's Club.
I like O'Neills as well, and I'm actually probably going to the Marquis tonight for the cheap Tuesday night Teas, but by far my favorite bar is the Timberwolf. Just a very relaxed attitude in a cool building with a ridiculous selection of beers. I finished my world beer tour a couple months back and should be getting my personalized mug from them in a week or two.
Dang, does everyone here go to the same bars? I go to Brian O'Neills, Marquis, and Timberwolf also. Also R & R is pretty cool. I like the Timberwolf, there are all kinds of beers to get, but for some reason no girls go anymore! Last time it was reasonably full and we counted 5 girls including the waitresses. Maybe during better weather people will hang out there more.
BigTexxx hit is mostly on the head. Though if you like a little more club type, the M-Bar (formerly Prague) has been pretty good lately. Gatsby's this Friday will have a Latin theme, but a classier one, not the garbaGe on richmond.
Damn Conserv-o's and their titty bars! (that means just kidding...there are plenty of libs who love a good lap dance every now and then!) Here are my picks: Lounges: Kay's, Little Woodrow's-Alabama, Roll-in Bars: LZ's Pub (this place is a cool hang and is crawlin' wit women on Thursday nights), El Tiempo (restaurant and bar)
Zimm's is a nice lounge on Montrose/Richmond. I also like the Social. Just to let loose and hang out, I like Velvet Melvin's and the Tavern on W. Gray.
In Dallas, I've been enjoying Fox & Hound, Frankies, McKinney Ave. Tavern, TABC, The Reservoir, and, of course, Buffalo Wild Wings.
Where I go & what I do in a nutshell: Rudyard's - darts, live music Kay's - beer, foosball, Golden Tee, sports on tv West Alabama Ice House (when the weather's nice) - beer, horseshoes Gingerman - good beer, darts Baker St. Pub - cheap happy hour on Fridays ($5 pitchers), darts Cafe Adobe or El Tiempo- happy hour ritas when I'm in the mood McElroy's - nice Irish pub Cecil's - pool Alice's Tall Texan - beer dive Continental Club, Blanco's, Walter's/Silky's/Fat Cat's, Proletariat - music & whatnot LZ's, Maxwell's, Downing St, Sherlock's, Brian O'Neill's & others on occasion Haven't been downtown much in the last 2 years (construction), but Warren's & LaCarafe are good, I'm sure there's more.
I went to a Cuban spot in Dallas last month. Beautiful ladies, great music...you familiar? (and not a Mark Cuban spot)
Well, from a funk band's perspective, I like playing at The Mercury Room downstairs from Boaka Bar. We'll be there this Saturday in fact. Free CD for all CC.netters that show their face this weekend!!!
Actually pitchers are $5 everday during happy hour. $1.50 pints $4 domestic pitchers $5 Shiner bock pitchers Happy Hour 2pm to 9pm...also they serve decent food. Plus there is "usually" parking in the garage behind there. Baker St. Pub & Grill under specials
The Tavern on West Grey. Great jukebox, sports on TV, darts, ping pong, pool, foosball, wings, cheap pitchers, hot women. Also within walking distance of my house. Crappy parking, however.
Rudyards Pub uber alles. No other bar in town comes close. Also the Axiom. Also the Harp, just cause I live around the corner. Downtown: Now that notsuoH's closed, Warren's or La Carafe. Every other downtown bar sucks. To watch a game I usually go to Rudz and turn on the giant TV upstairs. Upstairs is usually closed at gametime, so I have it to myself and my friends. If they have something else going on, I'll watch the game at Griff's. McElroy's and Proletariat are okay too. I pretty much hate every other bar in town.
Oops. That was hasty. There are other bars I don't hate, but don't frequent too often: Marfreless is great. Next Door's okay, as are Lola's, Alice's Tall Texan and the bar at the Warwick. Great, gone bars were: Catal Huyuk, the original Axiom, Mary Jane's before it turned into that stupid Fat Cat's, Silky's before it got bought up by Pamland like MJ's, LaVeau's, Royal Jelly, Goat's Head Soup, the Allen Park Inn (sob) and Epstein's Bar. Used to be you could ride all over town from one cool bar to another. These days, there's rarely a reason to leave Rudz.
I just barhop on 6th street. The bar scene in Austin is a bit different. Most people just hang out at restaurants like Baby A's or Hooters and drink there if they want a relaxed atmosphere. I've heard a lot of good things about a bar called Opal Divines though, supposed to be great atmosphere. For "other" entertainment I prefer the Show Palace.
My places: Social 410 (On Fridays) Gatsby (On Thursdays = Hot A$$ Ladies) Baker's St. (Very Hot waitresses) Mercury Room Seven Zimms is okay
