I was wondering what everyone favorite albums were that just recently came out, I was thinking of picking up a couple like The Killers and The Mars Volta. What are your favorite recent albums?

Blueberry Boat by the Fiery Furnaces and Funeral by Arcade Fire.

The first takes a little patience because it's extremely ambitious. Long songs that take several complete turns in directions, but very rewarding if you soak it all in.

The second got a ton of album of the year type press and is very good. The main singer has a touch of David Byrne in his voice, and the songs are emotionally charged.

Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
Bright Eyes - Digital Ash in a Digital Urn

    Both are great.

Wow, seriously, I have never heard of any of the albums mentioned in this thread up to this point.

Right now I'm listening these that came out fairly recently:

Dio - Master of the Moon
Black Label Society - Hangover Music Volume 1
Jon Oliva's Pain - Tage Mahal

i like the firey furnaces - blueberry boat too. i dont think its for mass consumption though. its really wierd and prog-rocky. very oddball lyrics.

that new mercury rev album sucks ass. they used to rule and now they do too much heroin and their music blows.

i can't stop listening to wide awake. didn't really love it at first as i bought the matt sweeney/bonnie prince billy album (superwolf) and found it more earnest and mature. the bright eyes disc suffered a bit by comparison. well, i changed my mind. i threw it on for the first time in more than a week and i got it- it hit me just right, great songwriting, great melodies. thinking about buying digital ash next.

    The Arcade Fire-Funeral

They put on a bang of a show at Emos (Austin) a few weeks ago...very talented band but maybe not for everyone. Two of the dudes grew up in the Woodlands before moving to Canada

    The Black Keys-Rubber Factory

Trash-can blues from the industrial heart of Ohio. This album will please just about everyone

    MF Doom-Mm...Food.

Maybe the MC blessed with the most wit in recent memory. This album is a recreation of many past works but remains fresh even to long time Doom fans. This ain't bravado or bling rap

Ulrich Schnauss - A Strangely Isolated Place

Lookin' for an album to fit in the background as the cookies pile up? This is it...

Recent as of 2 years ago, The Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic

IS one of the best punk/powerpop albums in the past 20 years. Too bad 3/4 of the band died in a van accident.

    Low - The Great Destroyer
The Postal Service - Give Up
Interpol - Antics (Not as good as their first one, but really picks up steam midway through.)
