Clint Eastwood is my favorite, by far. No doubt about it. Also, no matter what kind of movie, you can't go wrong with Kurt Russell. The dude kicks ass in everything. Other favorites are James Earl Jones, Wilfred Brimley and Brad Pitt. For the ladies, I'll go with Jodie Foster and Reese Witherspoon.
Larry Fishburne Giancarlo (Carlos) Espisito Don Cheadle Ed Norton Johnny Depp N'bushe Wright Charlize Theron Penelope Cruz Selma Hayek
Robert DeNiro Tom Hanks Cary Grant James Stewart Sharon Stone Charlize Theron Helen Hunt Audrey Hepburn

bobby deniro gary oldham benicio del toro johnny depp tim robbins jodie foster frances mcdormand cameron diaz
Maybe I'm just sexist, or maybe someone's just slipping my mind, but I can't seem to think of any current actress who is any good on the cinema level save for her sex appeal. Jodie Foster is just to monotonous in her roles to qualify, IMO (i.e. serious tones to all her movies, no real personality depth, etc.). Angelina Jolie maybe? No, Tomb Raider II might have killed that prospect, but then again everbody does crappy movies for money at some point in their carreers nowadays. Can anybody name a current actress that is known for her skill rather than her ass?
Kevin Bacon - Singlehandedly makes crappy movies watchable. Ed Norton - Really good at the "average guy turned bad" gig. Jack Nicholsen - A Few Good Men, As Good as it Gets. Need I say more? John Malkovich - Most amazing eyes/stare EVER! Bet he makes millions in staring contests. Julia Roberts - Awesome in Erin Brockovich, and at least decent in a lot of other stuff I've seen. Glenn Close - Her and John Malkovich's performances in Dangerous Liaisons were two of the best I've ever seen.
As I said in my post above: Glenn Close. Though I agree with you that there seem to be precious few actresses who are known for much more than their looks.
Robert DeNiro is in a class of his own Adam Sandler (but only for Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, and maybe Big Daddy) Bruce Willis Colin Farrel is in A LOT of good movies recently, he's rising on my list Can't think any actresses right now
Robert DeNiro Clint Eastwood Al Pacino Edward Norton Kurt Russel Phillip Semore Hoffman Gary Oldman For actresses there are too many to name but these two are at the top of my list Michelle Pfeiffer Niomi Watts
How can these be forgotten? Mel Gibson Christopher Walken Owen Wilson Michael Douglas Ben Stiller Meg Ryan Julianne Moore Carrie-Ann Moss Famke Janssen
Actors: Christopher Guest Peter Sellers Andy Griffith(almost solely for his role in 'A Face in the Crowd.' IT's maybe the best acting performance I've ever seen. Sadly it also messed Andy Griffith up for much of his life since then.) Harry Shearer Peter O'Toole Harry Dean Stanton Rip Torn Don Cheadle Joe Morton John Goodman Walter Huston William H. Macy Owen Wilson Charles Chaplin Actresses: Meryl Streep Patricia Neal Olivia De Haviland Emily Watson Angelica Huston Robin Wright(Penn)
