Just curious....it's been 15 years. How many of you fathers are out there teaching your kids about the Dream? Like his dismantling of what's that guy from San Antonio? How do you do it? The internets must help, with the tinman's vids. I guess. At what point are you going to allow them a Facebook page....which is a euphemism to at what point will you allow them a cfnet account. and yes, I'm jealous...no kids. Oh, and extra bonus if your son was born 9mos from '94 or '95
my kids know about Guy Lafleur, who retired in the mid 80's. And Rocket Richard (don't know why, but they brought home several books on the guy -- and he did wear the right colour jersey). And Gordie Howe -- including his Houston connection with the Aeros and Marty and Mark. My son even got to shake his hand - which was a huge deal to him. They also know about Warren Moon -- from his CFL roots and current Seahawks broadcasts. But with no NBA teams in the pacific north west their bball knowledge is lacking -- they're currently big on the Harlem Globetrotters youtube clips...and Steve Nash, who's constantly in the news and whose brother plays soccer here. But that's about it. Both my kids just eat up sports history. Which is perfectly OK with me!
I watched a YouTube video of Hakeem's top 10 plays with my kids, son 8 & daughter 10 just yesterday when it popped up in the Garm thread. Now I think it's time for a viewing of the DVDs of the championship years.
Anyone catch that episode of HIMYM this season, where Marshall wants to name his kid Hakeem or Dikembee? Unfortunately for me, my kid will be a spurs fans since his mother is a Spurs fanatic. =( But I will show him how the legendary dream abused David Robinson, and how Hakeem demoted Robinson from Admiral to mermaid.
You shouldn't disrespect the other guy like that. It's important to remember that his name was David Robinson and many people considered him a great player. That makes what Hakeem did to him that much more amazing.
Yeah, that was awesome. One of my favorite points of the show this year. Hakeem getting respect on CBS prime time programming.
Fortunately, my kids are old enough to have experienced it with me. It'll be up to them to teach their kids.
My 10 year old has seen the Clutch City DVD's...occasionaly I walk in to find him watching one of the Finals games vs. the Knicks. I love telling him stories about Dream. He's blown away by the quadruple-doubles
This is funny because my son asked me last weekend while we were bringing down Christmas lights, "Were you seriously going to name me Hakeem?" " I said "No. It was Akeem, but your mom didnt let me." He knows all about the Rockets. I always tell him that God gave me a son and a Houston Rocket Championship the year he was born.
I let this 7 year old boy that me and my lady babysit frequently watch this video: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uBrEsNS9zKg?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uBrEsNS9zKg?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> All I heard from him was oohs and ahhs.
