Why do you guys say you didn't see him throw any punches? The news people said that part of the fiasco was not filmed or at least not aired. Witnesses including a ref said the boy had to be protected from the man after the part that was filmed not during.
In situations like that people often exaggerate what really happened. The fact that the ref tried to protect him afterwards doesn't say much, if I was the ref out there protecting the kid would be my first instinct regardless of if the guy was still trying to hit him. I'm not saying he did or didn't throw punches at the kid, but you can't tell just from the video.
Look at him on the video after he knocks the kid down. He has that "oh sh*t" look on his face, and he even takes a step backwards. Also, neither the video nor the write up said that he was throwing punches at the kid, just that he was "throwing punches". ...not to defend what he did, but witnesses have been known to embellish a story a little bit...
that's what i see. like he thinks he's about to get his ass kicked and is ready to defend himself. everyone was already kind of running over there. i don't see how he got back to the kid and started punching him after backing off and already being separated by about 10 feet from the kid at that point. he'd have to be pretty quick. i agree. criminal, needs to be punished, but not like a felon and not with any jailtime.
I know. It's like that time my son was playing basketball and one of the other kids committed a hard foul against him, so I went onto the court and punched the snotty little five year-old square in the nose. And then everybody was yelling at me like I was the bad guy.
My point in posting this is that we don't know what happened afterwards, we are sitting here just assuming that he backed away, that spectators embellished, the story was made out to be more than it was. Were any of you actually there? No, so all you can do is assume but I say let's wait until more facts emerge.
Do you think that kid will think twice before putting another late hit on some poor kid? If he does, then maybe it was all worthwhile.
I watched the YouTube link and can barely tell what went on. All I saw was the parent push the kid down, and the kid get right back up. Felony? Don't think so. And I couldn't even tell what happened before that from the footage.
I Officiate football from the Pop Warner level up to High School, and this does not surprise me in the least. The younger the kids are, the crazier the parents are. Sometimes it is downright scary.
the guy 58 hits late looks like a runt. no sympathy for the father, no sympathy for 58. if 58 cried he needs to be humiliated for that.
I saw him interviewed and almost feel compelled to congratualte the dumb arse father. I wonder if there's some history... Regardless...a couple of idiots.
Well we arent sure if that was the first late hit by #58. He might have had some earlier in the game and warnings were issued to him. Usually men who have children and coach football know how to handle themselves. Maybe the dad did a good thing with that.
Zero excuse for a grown man to hit a kid, his own or anyone else's. I don't care what was going on on the football field. I hope he gets what's coming to him. Which is almost certainly probation of some sort, a big fine, some community service.
Kids fight all the time, bullys pick on smaller kids, thats life. You shouldn't have kids until you accept that this type of thing is going to happen and you can't be the overprotective parent who tries to jump in.
