San Antonio tips scales as fattest 31.1 percent of adults in Alamo City are obese, CDC says By ROB STEIN Washington Post WASHINGTON -- San Antonio has gained the unenviable position of being the community in the United States with the greatest percentage of obese adults, according to new federal statistics. In 2001, the most recent year for which national data on obesity are available, 31.1 percent of adults in San Antonio were considered obese -- the highest rate in the nation. Gary, Ind., had the second-highest obesity rate -- 28.8 percent. San Antonio's ranking comes as the numbers of Americans who are overweight and obese are hitting all-time highs. In 2001, 21 percent of U.S. adults were obese and 37.2 percent were overweight, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. --- and this comes from the CDC, not some Men's Health magazine!!!
When I think of fat cities I think of cities in Wisconson and Milwaukee. Cold cheese and beer states. This is pretty disturbing. People should lay off the guacamole.
31.1 percent obese huh? I wonder what the actual definition of someone is to be considered obese? Alot of people can weigh more than others but not be fatter. Muscle has amuch to do with it.
Hmm... first the sweatiest city and now the most obese city (although I think they've won this before, but not sure if the "award" was by the same source). Congrats San Antonio!
