OK so I am tired of waiting for internet pages to load.

    What is the fastest service?

I have a current phone that is pretty fast I think I need an upgrade from T-mobile's service.

Response times to all networks is slow. That's usually what takes so long when loading websites on a phone. The downstreams are all pretty similar, I think. Still, the response time sucks with EDGE, 3G, 4G, whatever...

    Want it fast? WiFi.

Disagree. I generally get pretty good response times and download speeds on 3G with Sprint pretty much wherever I am in Houston. Once I did a Youtube test at a restaurant with a friend who had an iPhone, and my Palm Pre blew it out of the water with the response time.

The phone itself can be a factor too -- if your phone has a slow CPU it will take longer to render web pages. But as far as networks go, Sprint.

I think you'd be fine with T-Mobile. They just launched their HSPA+ service in Houston, which is getting upload and download speeds comparable to Sprint's wi-max network. Unfortunately, the only two T-Mobile devices that support it at the moment are their broadband card and the upcoming G2.

With that said, I'm actually satisfied with my AT&T data service. Their call quality on the other hand is a little suspect...

I am pleased with the speed of my EVO 4G. Even with 4G turned off, Sprint's 3G service is very respectable.

Sustained download speeds and response times are two very different animals. One network can take a couple of seconds to actually route your request, but when it does make the connection you start getting 6mbps download speeds; another can get your request routed within 100ms or less but give you only 1mbps download speeds.

For everyday web surfing, the second network is always going to feel a lot faster and more enjoyable to use. Haven't heard much about T-Mobile in this respect, but AT&T is notorious for having the worst ping/response times.

i have a pretty new phone. It was just released 6 months ago. I don't want to carry a brick but I am willing to upgrade if it increases speed. I checked ouut the Droid X but that sucker is way too big.

I was hoping there was a network that was known to be fastest. :(

I'm connected to my Sprint Palm Pre using Mobile Hot Spot right now and got this from speedtest.net.

Now this is on a regular laptop plugged into an EVO 4G using PDANet, and NOT using Sprint's hotspot service or buying their phone-as-modem service.

I assume the hotspot offers different performance, but even still, the DL speed is pretty good.. it's the UL speed that really takes a hit this way, I think...
