OK, I'm on my way to Memphis last weekend, and I decided it was time again for me to do my burger taste tests.

As I've said before, I'm a "limited time only" junkie. If Burger King advertises a new Xtreme Whopper with three extra pickles, I'm trying it.

So last weekend I tried Sonic's Island Fire Burger.
I also tried Dairy Queens Flamethrower burger.

First, Sonic's. Big burger. Two 1/4 lb. patties, Monterrey Jack Jalepeno cheese, as well as American, three strips bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a new sweet habenero sauce.

Review: Very tasty burger. I recommend it. It does cost $3.99, though.

Next, Dairy Queen's. Another big burger. From a website I found for ingredients: the FlameThrower(TM) burger is made with two all-American, all-beef patties, whole leaf lettuce and tomato, and topped with zesty jalapeno bacon, spicy Pepper Jack cheese and tangy Tabasco Chipotle mayonnaise to create an extra zing.

Review: Both burgers were the same size. They both also cost $3.99. However, the flamethrower didn't have nearly as nice a taste to it. I never tasted the spicy flavor, and didn't know it even had bacon on it until my last few bites. Anyway, I'd pass on this one.

Winner by a landslide: Sonic Island Fire burger.

If anyone knows of any other specials, let me know.

    Hey FB

If pass by a Hardee's or a Krystal's, be sure and give a review - I haven't eaten at either in a long time.

There's a Krystal on 1960. I ate there when it first opened.

Hardee's is great as well. I ate at one in Missouri last year and it's really far and away the best burger out of your chain restaurants. Unless you count Steak and Shake or In and Out. Which I'm not. :)

No Hardee's, but there are Krystals there. Also, there are going to be 13 locations coming to Houston. The first one is already at 45 and 1960.

    Awesome little burgers.

I totally forgot that Krystals opened a location in Houston! This thread just paid for itself! (yeah, I know.. it's free)

In and Out burgers is best by far. My wife dreams of being the person who ushers In and Out burgers to Texas (she's from California).

I don't always try these special burgers, even though I want to, because they come with two patties. I'm in enough trouble without a second piece of hamburger in there. Sometimes I just make myself take out one of the burgers or give it to someone else.

Now, for something everyone should know about: right now Church's (at least in my area) has a special where, for $4.99, you get three chicken tenders, three jalapeno bombers, fries and a drink. :) The perfect huge fried-food combo. They finally started making spicy chicken strips as well. Take advantage while you can.

    LOL, Krabby Patti.

Ribwich mascot: Hey, hey, the Ribwich is back.
Homer Simpson: (Gasp!) The Ribwich! The commercials have come to pass.
Ribwich mascot: Try the new Ribwich. It's so good you'll croak.
Homer Simpson: You seem like an impartial observer. But I've been fooled by so many people in costumes.
Ribwich mascot: Try the sauce. I'm soaked in it.
Homer Simpson: Oh, I could lick you all day long.
Ribwich mascot: And yet my children think I'm a failure.
    Homer Simpson: One Ribwich, please.
    squeaky-voiced teen: Uh-huh.
    Homer Simpson: ''Now without lettuce.''
[Homer eats Ribwich after Ribwich after Ribwich and then becomes delirious.]
squeaky-voiced teen: Sir, are you all right?
Homer Simpson: I have eaten the ribs of God.
    squeaky-voiced teen: Drool clean-up at Register 4.

Homer Simpson: Three Ribwiches, please. And instead of a shake, I'd like a blended Ribwich.
squeaky-voiced teen: I'm sorry, sir. The Ribwich was for a limited time only.
Homer Simpson: Not again! First you took away my Philly Fudgesteak. And then my Bacon Balls. Then my Whatchamachicken. You monster!
[Lenny and Carl help a sobbing Homer walk toward the Krusty Burger's exit. Then Homer comes running back to the register.]
Homer Simpson: I'd like a large fries please, in a collector's cup.
ribhead: Dude, if you still want the Ribwich, they're testing it in other markets. Check out the tour schedule.
Homer Simpson: Oh, this is amazing. I could follow the Ribwich from town to town.
ribhead: That's what we do. We're Ribheads.
Homer Simpson: Maybe I should hook up with you guys. After all, how long do any of us have to live?
ribhead: Well, if you like the Ribwich, not very.
[The ribhead holds up a Ribwich container, which has a warning from Krusty: 'Will cause early death!']

I have that same dream. Too bad they won't expand their operations here. In and Out would murder the competition.

Have you tried one of those caramel empanadas, FFB? Those things are laced with crack...

I really haven't tried a beef and potato burrito...seems a little to "dense", if that makes any sense. I'll try one next time, though...

If you haven't tried the spicy chicken burrito, give it a go. I guarantee you'll be hooked...

Without a doubt, they would single-handedly dominate the burger market here. We'd see mass store closings from BK, McD's, Wendy's, Jack... even Whata.

I thought the Island Fire burger was good, but I think I could have done without the bacon. I like bacon on hamburgers, but they overcooked the bacon on the Island Fire burger and it didn't really do it for me. Otherwise, I liked it. It wasn't the sort of hamburger I'd have again.

Fatty -- there's also the Wendy's Mozerella Chicken Sandwich and Hamburger.

I've had both -- I think the chicken sandwich is good, but if I'm getting Wendy's chicken, it's going to be the spicy chicken. The Mozerella Hamburger was good too, but it really didn't stand out. I was kind of expecting more from the cheese, but it didn't really make the burger or chicken sandwich taste all that much different from regular. It was a nice change, but it didn't have any staying power . . .

The best thing I've had in a while was that Whataburger Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich. THAT WAS GOOD! They should've kept it on the menu full-time. Best chicken sandwich I've ever had . . .

Damn both of those sound pretty good, unfortunately Im trying to lose my gut and am on the Abs diet..... Im also trying to clear out my arteries a bit. For a while there I was eating fast food almost daily for lunch..... Bad news for the arteries - esp. when heart problems run in the family.

    :(

Well, I watched Super Size Me this weekend so I won't be eating anymore fast food.

At least not for another few days.
