That's awesome... I hope they find a way to attract some viewers for the show. Farscape is absolutely one of the most well produced show I've seen recently. The problem was when they moved their time slot to be with Stargate, and then the ratings started to drop. Hopefully, the savefarscape campaign can use their money to help market the show. Everybody, watch this show... watch 3 episodes, and I guarentee you'll be watching more.
Fantastic news. Miracles DO happen! Now, if only enough people watch the miniseries, maybe... just maybe... (nah, getting too ahead of myself...)
Things must be looking up for you Nomar. Now you are just praying for a show where Linda Cohn makes out with various hobbits.
What makes you say that? I think you overestimate my fascination with Lord of the Rings. I admire Tolkien as one of the greatest English authors of all time, and I loved the first movie. But I'm far from an obsessive LOTR fan. I enjoyed his Silmarillion book far better than the LOTR books...
Apparently, this mini-series will tie up the loose ends of the 4th season finale. I speculate that, this could be a pilot for the series to be syndicated once their contract with sci-fi expires in the end of 2004. It doesn't look like Sci-fi will be picking up the mini series. It would be awesome if Spike TV picks this up. This would build a new audience for the show, and might serve to be a good place for the show. Long live Farscape!!!
Agreed, but this could also be a bad thing.. mainly when will we get to see it? If they don't find a buyer will we ever see it? Maybe straight to DVD.
The show did not exactly do poorly in the ratings department considering they were stuck on the sci-fi channel. Let's look at it this way... if a crappy show like Andromeda is still getting syndication, I think Farscape will do just fine. What worries me is that they won't have the same budget as before, and that the new network or producers will make changes to the show. I'm sure the mini-series will be picked up by someone. In fact I'm sure they have found someone to pick it up, or otherwise, they wouldn't have the budget to make the mini-series in the first place. It does cost producers about a million dollars per episode, so the mini-series won't come cheap. I think they will have the mini-series ready to be broadcasted by the end of 2004. I think the mini-series will be like an expensive pilot. If the viewers respond positively... they'll have a shot at making new seasons of Farscape. btw... Are we the only Farscape fans on this board? I'm totally stoked about the return of this show. I wish more people on this board shares my feeling in this. Farscape is a great show.
I think if it gets picked up, it will get another season at least. It was meant to have a whole extra season that never got made. Well I hope for the best anyway.
I'm thrilled to see it, I actually never saw the last 6 episodes and am eagerly awaiting the release of Season 4 on DVD.
OMG... What are you a history major? Silmarillion reads like a bad text book. The only reason I read it is because I wanted a deeper view of the LOTR's.
Kilgore - Sorry didn't see your post. I have no clue when it's going to be released. mateo - Did you not want to see them because of the cancellation? If so, you have some willpower man. Go download those episodes. They won't be out on DVD till next August I believe. And you are in for one hell of an ending to Season 4. First DVD for S4 is out Dec. 2nd btw. MacB - You a Farscape fan? Pie Eater - No, I just liked it better. I thought the LOTR books dragged along in parts, and had some childish dialogue. The Silmarillion was much better, to me at least.
Nomar- Basically I got as far as the episode after they left Earth, and then went on a 15 day vacation, missing 3 episodes. I figured they would repeat the whole season on Fridays after it ended. My bad, they instead sporatically repeated it on random nights and sometimes preempted it with crappy episodes of Tremors: The Series (ugh). So I just started buying the box sets. My wife was pretty jacked about it, it was her favorite show outside of Boomtown. Needless to say she's pretty bitter about TV these days.....
Yeah SciFi really had a screwed up Marketing system in place for Farscape. They would screw with the timeslot constantly, and the show would go on several month long hiatus'. IMO that's the biggest reason it never showed bigger ratings than it did.
I call this the "Family Guy/Futurama Scenario." Move a show around randomly (or put it after NFL football), conveniently forget to market said show, and watch ratings nosedive. Instant death and cancellation! FOX is notorious for doing this. To their credit, Sci-fi is completely different... They're just r****ded. What's idiotic is that the crew destroyed all the original sets for the show and now have to rebuild them for this miniseries. I wonder if Moya is going to look "newer" for the miniseries...
Family Guy is also returning Wednesday, November 19, 2003 - 12:15 PM 'Family Guy,' 'Farscape' May Get Second Lives By Brian Ford Sullivan CHICAGO (thefutoncritic.com) -- Two of television's most popular canceled series - "Family Guy" and "Farscape" - are well on their way to getting second broadcast lives. The former, which ran for three seasons on FOX from 1999-2002, is close to resuming production according to a story published in this morning's USA Today. Thanks to stunning DVD sales and record numbers on cable's Cartoon Network, distributor 20th Century FOX is reportedly considering putting the animated comedy back in production for 35 new episodes, the majority of which could be ready for a January 2005 start date on a to be determined network. Should it go forward, the news would mark the first time a show has been revived thanks to its back-end performance in home video and syndication. April's DVD release of the first 28 episodes of "Family Guy" sold nearly one million copies and so far is the top-selling TV show of 2003 not to mention the fourth best-selling TV title of all time according to a recent report in Video Store Magazine. A second collection, which contained the 22 remaining produced episodes, has sold 520,000 copies since going on sale in September. As for its syndicated run on Cartoon Network, the series has broken the channel's top scores in several key demographics not once (read the story), not twice (read the story) but at least three times (read the story) since joining its Adult Swim lineup earlier this year. Meanwhile, fellow canceled series "Farscape" also appears to be headed back into production. The show's resurrection campaign web site, SaveFarscape.com, is reporting that work is set to begin on a new four-hour "Farscape" mini-series beginning next month. While producer Jim Henson Company has yet to confirm the news, the site says the information comes from "a trustworthy and solid source." No distribution plans however were revealed (i.e. a return to Sci Fi Channel, a different network or a straight to video/DVD release). For the original USA Today report about "Family Guy" click here.
