Which insurance company do you have?

Farmers Insurance is probably the worst insurance company I have ever dealt with, so glad I've switch to Geico.

Just read all the complaints they have from the above link!

I have USAA, which is hands down the best insurance company to have if you are eligible. State Farm, in imhpo, is a semi-close 2nd.

    I haven't heard a positive thing about Farmer's since the early 90s.

GEICO seems to be up and down.

My wife and I have USAA as well, but not everyone can get it. In the past, I've had Allstate and Progressive. Good and bad about both....

I am an independent insurance agent and work with a lot of companies. I'm not going to tell you who has a bad rep but I'll tell you the good ones:

    (in no particular order)
    USAA
    Liberty Mutual
    Kemper
    State Auto
    AAA
    The Hartford/AARP
    State Farm (auto only)
    ASI
    Home Owners of America

State Farm has been absolutely fantastic for both home and auto for my family. I can't imagine ever leaving them.

I wouldn't say they're a 'great' company when they're having to non renew 50% of their business in Harris County. They're in a bit of financial trouble.

I have State Farm and it's a bit expensive, but worth it. They have been great every time I have needed them. Someone knocked my bumper half off when I was out of town; they were declared at fault but they had one of those cheap insurance companies, who wouldn't get moving on it so I could go ahead and get my vehicle fixed. I had trouble finding anyone to talk to or getting anyone to arrange my estimate and repair; they wanted me to wait several days. I had my State Farm people take care of it instead and they worked to recover my claim from the cheap company while I was going ahead and using their services to get it fixed. This kind of great service wouldn't have been an option with the cheaper companies.

The disclaimer from the bottom of the site states this:

At the top of the page it also states in bold:
Then I went to the J.D. Power and Associates website and saw the Auto Insurance chart here:
    http://www.jdpower.com/insurance/ratings/auto-insurance-provider-ratings

So, yeah that site is flat out lying. I'm not saying Farmers is great, but they're average. They have the same average rating from J.D. (3 stars out of 5) as AllState, Country, GEICO, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, Progressive, and The Hartford.

Farmers is rated higher than 21st Century, AIG, GMAC, MetLife, Safeco, Senty and Travelers (all 2 stars).

Farmers is rated lower than the following 4 stars: ANPAC, Auto-Owners, Erie and State-Farm.

The 2 best perfect ratings are USAA (for military related people) and Amica Mutual.

I didn't include regional insurers (like 3star Cali State Auto Association) in the list. But so yeah, stop spreading websites full of lies. I'm sure Farmers is good and bad, just like the other big companies. They're not rated "THE WORST", which is inaccurate information being spread by the website.

It is definitely the the top-rated and best consumer service.

Unfortunately, to be eligible you have to have served in the armed forces, national guard, and some other services. (I believe FBI, CIA, etc are eligible as well) or be the decedent of someone who has served and is currently a member.

No matter what company you're with, you will ALWAYS have a group of people upset at what the company does or how they handle things.

Progressive handled a fender-bender I had with a motorcycle driver very well. My company did not need to get involved.

State Farm handled a fender-bender I had driving my in-law's car very well.

If you take things with a temper to a company, they will not listen to you. Deal with things in a rational manner.

My insurance company is Farmers Insurance and I have only had top-notch customer service. My agent is a good friend since high school, and he's handled things properly and without favoring anything just because he is my friend (I think).

    Well, look-ee look... http://www.geicoblows.com/ :p

So what was your problem with FARMERS, Luckyazn??

    Amica

My family and I have had quite a few auto break-in claims over the past 10 years or so, and every time Amica has been incredible in handling them. The rates may be higher than other companies, but it feels cheap for the level of service received.

Unless I'm reading this wrong, from reading what you typed, they're stating that JD Power's Collision Repair ratings for Farmers suck, but you're linking to their Auto Insurance Provider ratings. They're two different things.

*EDIT* : Here's a Businessweek link that kind of agrees with them : http://images.businessweek.com/sb/jdpower/collision_repair/index.htm

I have Nationwide. USAA is probably the best, and I'll likely switch when I hit 25.

    Yeah, I'm eligible.

My apologies. Is Auto Claims better or is that different also? Because this link has Auto Claims ratings from JD Power with categories like repair process, settlement, rental car, and service interaction.

    http://www.jdpower.com/Insurance/ratings/auto-claims-ratings

This shows Farmer's as middle of the pack too.

    http://www.jdpower.com/insurance
The main page only shows 3 main categories for auto insurance ratings:
    1) Auto Insurance Provider ratings
    2) Auto Claims Ratings
    3) Insurance New Buyer Ratings

I have Farmers. I had State Farm, but they didn't support me very well in a collision where another guy just drove right into my lane. They said that I could file with them, and then they would take it up with the other company - but that I needed to file by myself against the other company first.

I have USAA. Like others have said, it is the best. My wife and I are former military brats, which is how we got in. They cover my house and all 3 vehicles, as well as one of my IRA accounts. I'm going to be getting Life Insurance coverage from them soon. They really have great prices, a good website, and good customer service. I don't have any complaints.
