It is with deep regret that we will see our good friend, Dennis Franchione, probably walk off the field for the final time against Texas tomorrow afternoon. Since the football mastermind took over at Texas A&M university in 2003, this man has brought many laughs to the Big XII and the rest of college football. Some of my fondest memories of his tenure include: - losing 77-0 against OU, and having the clock run continuously during the 4th quarter - eating Little Debbie snackcakes on the sidelines - the Listeater episode before the '05 Cotton Bowl - losing to Baylor 35-34 in 2003 - the $1200 email list So farewell Dennis. Oh how we hardly knew ye.
Its the holidays! So... -He was consistently in the top 25 in recruiting. -He was the brains behind an offense that flirted with the yards per play record AND turnovers -Top 5 in rushing last season, gave that team an identity after losing McNeal. and... -ya I agree that loss to Baylor and list eater were big -kicking the FG against OU -kicking a FG against Clemson -the stipulation in his contract he had to be the highest paid coach at TAMU (sorry Billy)
Oh my god thats our forecast? I pray we beat Texas then. If thats the matchup Ill put money on TAMU. Fran finally wins a bowl.
And a quick comment on how the bowl system is $#$%% up. TAMU lost to UT a few years back. The result for the Aggies? We got a better bowl (Cotton). Thats right, we lost and our reward was a better bowl. So throwing that game would have been absolutely logical. There was no incentive for TAMU to win (they couldn't get the Big 12 south title) but in losing they earned a spot in the Cotton Bowl by sending Texas to the Rose Bowl. Someone take this scenario to ESPN, they completely missed it. It would add some fuel to the fire.
He'll have no answer for Quick Six and Donnie Avery. Fran does the walk of shame to the tunnel afterwards.
It would be a fitting end to that error. I think the Texas Bowl Committee wants Nebraska. TAMU would be great for ticket sales, terrible for local economic impact. Colorado and KSU are definite possibilities.
KSU, Nebraska, TAMU, Colorado- in the same sentence as Texas Bowl? My poor sweet sweet Big 12 how you have fallen...
Fran was forever cursed the instant he offended the ghost of Bear Bryant. Plus he was a chicken**** for bailing on the very same players he gave the "we're a family" speech to when they could have gotten out of their commitments because of the NCAA sanctions. Don't they need a coach at Duke?
As I understand it he told his 'Bama team and staff via "one way video teleconference" that he was leaving. Now that, my friends, is chickensh*t. Writing was on the wall about what kind of man he was before he even got there.
The Texas Bowl has a Big XII tie in. Unless there are not enough bowl eligible Big XII teams...there will always be one in the Texas Bowl.
Big 12 sends 1 or 2 teams to BCS games. Cotton Bowl, Holiday Bowl, and I pray to god at least 2 more bowls are ahead of the UH bowl.
Texas Bowl gets the Big XII #8 team. If they get 2 teams in the BCS, there may not be enough bowl eligible teams from the conference to make it to the Texas Bowl. That would make it a CUSA vs. At Large matchup.
You forgot my personal favorite: - Smacking the Longhorns around two years in a row. In all seriousness though, Fran has officially stepped down. There is a press release up on aggieathletics.com
I thought Fran was pretty rude to Jack Arute after the game considering he knew he would resign an hour later. I could understand if Franny was fighting to keep his job.
