What is the deal with this?

I'm assuming they are listening to the play by play?
What are they keeping track of in their notepads?

It looks like a fun way to pass the time at baseball games, but not sure I understand it, its always real old school fans that seem to do this.

some pple actually do it because with certain types of music it makes it easier to concentrate. For me, when I film, I put headphones on because it makes easier for me to keep a steady hand. Tupac baby.

I don't understand why they would do that. I mean if you take yourself out of the stadium by putting on headphones, you lose the atmosphere that watching a game at the stadium brings. At that point you might as well just watch the broadcast on t.v.

I rather listen to the game and the fans then the radio on my head.

I don't keep score, because there is a HUGE scoreboard.

:) keeping score in baseball is more than just the runs on the board.

Kinda...I guess. I'm surprised it's so foreign to you guys. I kept score all year long for my son's little league team.

nothing wrong with keeping score....the headphones though, never understood it. nothing like being there in person to hear the crack of the bat.

I like to keep score, but I don't always do it. I don't listen to headphones though. I kept score for our baseball team when I coached it several years ago.

If done right, you can reconstruct the entire sequence of events from the scorecard. You can't do that from a scoreboard or a box score.

My job requires me to keep track of every pitch at Astros home games...I will never keep score for free again.

i enjoy keeping score.. but i don't do it unless i go alone or with someone who is also doing it. otherwise, i'd rather interact w/the ppl i'm with. and have some beers with them!

headphones, not for me.. but i'm thinking if you're keeping score, it can sometimes help you if you miss a play or aren't sure what happened, how something was scored, etc... not to mention the occasions when you wonder why a guy left the game (like when Oswalt left the Nats game out here! I had to call a friend and ask..)

If they ere used to watching games on TV with commentators, maybe a live game without commentators just seems more "empty" to them.

Plus if you're at the game alone and care what people think, headphones and scorecards help you look occupied rather than looking like a lonely guy with nothing to do. Instead of the stereotypical "baseball is boring without beer" approach.
