I have been sitting back for a while reading what everybody had to say about Ming, JVG, Tracy, and co. I do want to say that I am very disappointed to be a Rockets fan... for several reasons. First, the Rockets are having a horrible season. It pains me to see them loose. I like to see them play. I think they play hard every night. But they still loose. It sucks. Secondly, because I hate being a fan in Houston. Houston is the worse place to be a sports fan. Houston fans are all band wagon fans. Thy ride you if you are good.. they dump you if you are bad. That stinks. Some fans are calling for the job of JVG. These are the same people a year ago that thought he was one of the top five coaches in this league. I will say if JVG goes, it will go down as the biggest coaching mistake in the history of the Rockets. I would venture to say that JVG is underrated. He prepares teams well. Players love him. Fns hate him... I wonder who's opinion we should examine more???? People also say his style is boring.. Well, when you have a big center like we have, you can't run up and down the damn flor all night. JVG wants us to be a better fast break team. I see him always telling the boys to push the ball. We just nee better players. People say the offense is horrible. It's funny, the only great coach in the league that is a great offensive coach is Larry Brown. If you know basketball, you can easily see that Pop, Flip and others rarely even mention offense. The pride themselves on defense. Their team are naturally good offensively is because of the players they have. (We are going to have to get better offensive players) Others think Tracy is done. "He is going to retire" "We should trade him". Again, ignorance. You have no idea what the real problem is.. or if there is a solution. You just think he is done. Well, I will say that Tracy will come back next year and have the best career of his life. Why? cause he i going to take it personal. This is his team... not Yao's. I honestly think Tracy being out has been good for Yao because it is forcing him to become aggressive and be a leader. Imagine what these 2, along with some good perimeter shooting will do.... What we need is to keep our coach, and just add some good shooting to this team. We also need a shooting guard who can penetrate. This will take ore pressure off of TMAC. We are only a few pieces away from where we need to be.... If you can't see that, you don't know basketball.
ummm. Adelman is a good offensive coach, so is Nelson, but he's currently a consultant. I think Flip is great offensively, Look at how he opened up Detroit's offense. LB is known primarily a defensive coach. Pop and comp. might not preach offense, but they sure teach it. Look at how efficient the Spurs are with the ball. Also, can u break up your thoughts. I'm pretty sure me and the other people with A d d could use some spacing.
Good post, I just don't agree with you about Larry Brown being a great offensive coach and also JVG handpicked this team. I'm not trying to be negative but JVG opted for keeping Ryan Bowen over the sharpshooting Scott Padgett.
Flip didn't do anything special. He let them do what they want. The team really isn't that much different than it was last year.
Everything you are harping about is your own personal opinion. Some of us differ on things. While we shouldn't go over the hill in throwing our points on others, they are valid viewpoints, nonetheless. If you look close enough, it's the same for every other team, they all have their bandwagoners, and their diehards...... How the fans choose to support, or not, is up to them. The team should strive to win, and until that is accomplished, fans will come and go. That's the way it is. Oh, and do you honestly think that Tmac wants to prove who's team it is? That's the right motivation, right there...yep.
Guys, you are in need of some good reading. Some great non-fiction stories that would inspire you. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0884152510/104-8471931-8963143?v=glance&n=283155
D'Antoni seems to be a pretty damned good coach and if he doesn't emphasize offense I don't know what he does emphasize. The criticism of JVG is very easy to understand. I think the Rockets during the second half of last season are the only team he's ever coached that were fun to watch. When his teams are winning and getting deep into the playoffs, people tolerate Van Gundy ball, when his teams are losing, people tend to complain. It isn't Rocket science.
When I began writing this post, I had the notion that I would write about something positive and optimistic instead of going on about how cantankerous derrick is. Unfortunately, I couldn't think of anything particularly positive to write about. So, instead, I'll just tell you that derrick has mastered the dark arts of diversion and deception. Before I get moving here, let me point out that derrick maintains that his decisions are based on reason. This is hardly the case. Rather, there is growing evidence that says, to the contrary, that his prevarications will have consequences -- very serious consequences. And we ought to begin doing something about that. I am being absolutely serious when I say that he wants nothing less than to divert attention from his unprovoked aggression. His collaborators then wonder, "What's wrong with that?" Well, there's not much to be done with ignorant, purblind hucksters who can't figure out what's wrong with that, but the rest of us can plainly see that for derrick's insolent plans to succeed, he needs to "dumb down" our society. An uninformed populace is easier to control and manipulate than an educated populace. One day, schoolchildren will stop being required to learn the meanings of words like "intercrystallization" and "photoreconnaissance". They will be incapable of comprehending that the first lies that Derrick told us were relatively benign. Still, they have been progressing. And they will continue to progress until there is no more truth; his lies will grow until they blot out the sun and we all loose ourselves.
Flip has already matched last years games won. Flip might have let them "do whatever they want", but there is a damn good reason why they hold the best record in the league and it's Flip's coaching. Brown didn't get more out of them with almost the same exact cast.
I'll stand by you, Derrick. Injuries and the underachievement/under-impact of key acquisitions have made this a tough season. But you're absolutely right, through it all, we've continued to play hard. Let's be real, guys. At the start of the season we were thinking a backcourt combo of Rafer, Sura, DA, DWes and JB. We imagined T-Mac holding down the 3 and Stro supplanting Jho quite quickly if not from the start. Yao has exceeded our greatest optimism (many of us had confidence in his growth but his dominance has been marvelous). We're "effectively" down to a Rafer, Brunson and Head backcourt (Watch out for Head next year. He's been a real diamond this season.). We've got Bogans and Bowen (under)manning the 3. And Stro giving us an average of 1.5 highlights a game at the 4. C'mon, guys. This has not exactly been a storybook season with the personnel losses. But I firmly believe that we'll get healthy, re-tool our squad, and further develop our exisiting players to become a force once again. Other teams already have to really battle just to beat us even as the misfits we are. Take a deep breath, gentlemen and ladies. Things are gonna be alright. They're gonna get better. They're gonna be great.
Oh the irony. It's grammar, unless you're talking about Kelsey Grammer. If that is the case, you forgot to capitalize.
