I'm just going to go ahead and admit I'm a RASSLIN' geek and this bit of info completely freaked me out.

How many of you guys watched RASSLIN' in the 70's and 80's in Houston or Dallas? Do you remember a RASSLER named Rocky Johnson? He used to be one of my favorite RASSLERS as a kid. I used to love him, Tiger Conway, Jr., and Tony Atlas. I just found out that the same Rocky Johnson is The Rock's dad. Yes, The Rock of WWF fame. Now that's just cool... or did you guys already know this and not tell me?

whenever Rock E. first came out, they used to pound that fact down your throat on every show. They still talk about it every once and a while, too. His grandpa was a wrestler as well...

So, he is called "The Rock" because of his daddy? I just looked it up and his real name is Dwayne Douglas Johnson. IMDB says that he played his father on That 70's Show. That is kind of funny.

I asked my egyptologist if she was going to be first in line to see The Scorpion King. Lol, she loves historical re-enactments.

I have seen the real King Scorpion and he looked nothing like The Rock. He wore funny clothes, a pointy hat, and had a giant scorpion floating over his head.

Actually DOD his mother is from a highly regarded wrestling family as well. When he first started out he used her maiden name Miavia. Her father and siblings were the old Samoans. I am not sure who was who in the group. Incidently Rock played his father in an episode of " That 70's show" a few seasons back.

Sorry Doc already knew that, knew that for years! ;) I guess I'll screw with your mind a little bit more, Rock and the Samoans are pretty much connected and related. Rock's family grew up around the other Samoans, Afa, Sika, Haku, Tama, Rikishi etc., etc. I remember Haku/Meng commenting on it a year or so ago. In fact I believe Rikishi and Tama of the 1980s tag team "The Islanders" are either brothers or cousins. The Islanders were my favorite tag team right behind the Hart Foundation and side-by-side with Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson, later the "Brain Busters". Also, do you remember the Samoan Afa? He was Yokozuna's uncle. Rock's grandfather or uncle, I can't remember which, wrestled under the name Peter Maivia I believe in the 60s and 70s.

You must be confusing me with someone who gives a $hit.

    Kidding.....;)

I do remember Rocky Johnson vaguely. Didn't he wrestle (RASSLE) for the WCCW for a while?

Man, you guys sure know your RASSLIN'. I haven't followed it since it turned to crap several years ago. I just found it a neat tie-in with the "good ol' days".

    HOOP-T,

I just remember he had a fro that came down to an Eddie Munster/Calvin Murphy point in the front. I think he was also known for doing some really high drop kicks - a really athletic guy.

Rodney Anoi or something like that is related to the samoans i think.
    Rodney anoi is Yokozuna.

Rock's dad is Rocky Johnson. His mom is the Samoan one.
    Rocks gramp is Peter Miavia.

His mom is related to the Samoan clique which was listed above. So basically, Rock is related to Fatu, which is Rikishi, and Samu, and Afa, and Sika, and all them guys. There was another wrestler who died that was related to the Samoans. He was an Indy wrestler, I forgot what his name was. But he was related to them.

Do y'all watch wrestling on sunday nights? it's old school wrestling.

Seeing as WCW owns NWA tapes, and WWFE owns WCW, they basically have all of North American Wrestling. What i'd love to see is an all wrestling channel. I want to see old NWA stuff like the tag teams of the 80s. The Midnight Express, and the Rock n Roll Express, and a young Sting.

    here's a side note.

Do you people remember I think it was Starcade '91. Sting vs some masked scorpion guy or whatever? And then a guy dressed up in the ring as stings opponents is over at the curtain. Sting looks all confused and ****.

    Old NWA shhtuff is great.

Afa is the late Yoko/Rodney Anoi's uncle. I think the masked guy you're talking about is the Black Scorpion. There's a crazy story behind the creation of the Black Scorpion, what was supposed to happen, etc., etc. Remind me to tell it to you someday it is HILARIOUS! Needless to say, for you old schooler who remember Ole Anderson, the guy sucked as a wrestling booker, and along with Dusty Rhodes drove the NWA out of business, essentially forcing Jim Crockett to sell a major piece of the NWA to Ted Turner. But yep Rock's related to all of those samoans along with Haku.

That was funny that episode. It was the only one I actually watched (becuase The Rocck was in it), and I can only remember one line from it:

The Rock/The Rocks Dad: "I will have a son and he will be truely electrifying!"

I know what it is, but I just don't remember it. The black scorpion was to torment sting.

I don't know if this is who you're talking about, but there was an Indy wrestler who died a few years ago named Gary Albright. I know he wrestled in the Memphis area for awhile, I think USWA. He was married to Afa's daughter.
