See all those fans in that picture? They are dirty, filthy people who are running afoul of Arrowhead Stadium law and should be ejected and beaten with a railroad spike.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a "Fan Code of Conduct," which is essentially a list of rules that fans have to follow when they're attending a game at Arrowhead. In theory, it's not a bad idea, as you'd like your stadium to provide a friendly atmosphere for families and people who aren't drunken hooligans.

In practice, though, it might not be such a great idea, especially if the person responsible for coming up with the rules is an 85-year-old woman who teaches the 2nd grade and regards standing up as one of the evil things that young whippersnappers often do. Seriously, standing erect is the No. 2 item on the list of things that are prohibited:

    • Standing and/or obstructing the view of other fans

Not only that, Pro Football Talk points out how seated fans can anonymously tattle on their upright counterparts:

The Chiefs also have set up a text-messaging system that allows fans who might be offended by behaviors like standing to report the situation to the powers-that-be.

Awesome. I hear they're even taking the extra step and including bed pans with every seat, so no one has to get up to use the bathroom. They're going to make the beer and peanut vendors crawl through the stadium on all fours. Also, as soon as you get to your seat and sit down, an usher's going to come by and inject you with a temporary paralytic.

Maybe I'm overreacting. The anti-standing policy might only be temporary. Maybe they'll lift the ban when the Chiefs can field an offense that might actually score a touchdown every now and then and might give fans a reason to stand. Maybe this is only the policy until Brodie Croyle improved or is replaced.

Still, it seems like an asinine, joyless, and dangerous policy. If standing is banned, we can't be far away from banning yelling, too, can we? I'm all for a friendly fan experience, but I'd also rather not turn Arrowhead into the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

I usually tell people to sit if they're blocking my view. Especially those Red Rowdies, yeesh, how annoying can they get?!

Well... standing, and blocking my view, is the reason I only went to one TAMU game ever.

I chose to sit way up in the nose bleeds near the end zone just so I could see.

    Plus, TAMU stinks.

Well it's the tradition for us to stand at the games...
but I won't deny the fact that we do stink.

They'd never have to instate those rules for the lower bowl at Rocket's games...

I'd like to see some Queefs fan try and ask a member of the Black Hole to sit down.

I always find it interesting that there are so many sports fans who 1. can't enjoy a game sitting down (do they stand the whole time at home when watching on TV, too?), and 2. are too self-centered to care about anyone else.

Some people, especially children, tend to of below-average height and simply can't see (even in stadium seating situations) if the person in front of them is standing even when they themselves are standing. Some people can't physically stand for hours on end. Are those people simply not welcome at non-baseball sporting events? (And I'd actually give the Aggies or people in designated "super fan" sections a pass since standing is such an ingrained tradition in such places).

I also don't understand why my tradition of standing and loudly cheering the pilot (if the pilot fails, it's not just game lost in the standings) has yet to catch on.

Kansas City Chiefs fans are crazier than crazy and that will never change. The Chiefs are the only thing that sorry town has to feel good about and they aren't about to hold their emotions back at all. The article is a joke.

That's what the anonymous text feature is for, they don't have to ask you they can just tell on you. :D

I actually do. People in Red Lobster were looking at me crazy when I stood the whole time to watch Game 4 of the Jazz-Rockets.

Well considering how terrible the Royals are, I'm not surprised that the Chefs are all that KC has - and that is pretty damn sad, IMO.

I don't think people should be standing the entire game but to expect fans not to stand up and cheer during an exciting or tense play is ridiculous. What about when the D is waving their arms to get the fans to stand up and make some NOISE when its 3rd and short and the other team has the ball?

I sympathize with people who want to sit down or are short. I'm only 5'7" and sometimes can't see over the head of a tall fan in front of me but you go to a sporting event not just to observe the game, watching on TV you see a lot more with different angles, closeups and replays, but you go to participate in an event where the fans are part of the experience.

Seems these kind of fan guidelines are popping up all over lately.

I can see both sides of it. The idea of rabid fans is great, but in reality if a fan pays his money, goes to a game and wants to sit to watch the game, he should be able to. His money is just as good as the fan that wants to go crazy. It seems that the unofficial tactic some stadiums are using is to make the expensive ticket areas no standing, no yelling sections and let anything go in the cheaper ticket areas. That is what I have seen in a few arenas/stadiums anyway.

For a lot of sports fans, it's a rite of passage to attend a game as a child with one's father and to take one's kids to the game when we have our own kids.

Are you suggesting that all those parents should, instead, watch the game on TV?

Not to mention that standing isn't necessarily necessary to participate in the event. The crowd can be into the game - cheering, yelling and whatnot - and still be in their seats. (The term "edge of their seats", for example, implies that people are both into the game and still seated).

There's a large middle ground between sitting back/still watching a game and jumping around like a spaz.

And I notice that when one of the threads appears on this board bemoaning the movie-going experience, nobody ever defends those who talk during the movie or otherwise ruin the viewing experience for others. Why is that not just part of the event of going to the movie where other moviegoers are part of the experience?

You're not allowed to stand at the Toyota Center?

I would be curious to see the age of most of these people who are so against standing at a sports event. I don't necessarily like when people just stand all game long but i think its your right when you buy the ticket to stand and cheer.

If you want to sit all game long i think it is probably best to stay at home. I didn't go to a game until i was like in high school.

You basically aren't because the jackass sitting behind you just wants to sit there and pretend he's at home because he doesn't care that much about the Rockets seeing as his company just decided to give him the seats.

I started a thread about this in the GARM after this happened to our group repeatedly in Game 2 of the playoffs.

The bottom line is, if you want to sit on your ass the whole time and not make a sound, why don't you just stay home and watch it on TV? I'm there to cheer my ass off and support the team.

Ive seen this before at the Toyota Center..........especially when I took a certain Mexican on this forum and bought him a beer. Man we had a blast and I laughed at the faces of the people behind us. Great seats. Dont like to support your team? Then dont go.
