http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/franchiseRanks Thought this was interesting. ESPN basically gets all the team and ranks them by these categories which have to do with the fans and teams like Ownership, Fan Relations, and Bang for the Buck. Out of 122 teams Rockets at #27 Astros at #30 Texans at #93 I didn't think they did that great of a job though. Its basically by the best teams even though it says fans. The Knicks fans are great yet they are down near the bottom.
From the site: "This year's winning ways have attendance up by almost 7%, but with the NBA's fifth-highest game costs ($75.51), the most intelligent thing Houston could do to keep fans happy is win. A title." I guess all that complaining about seats being too expensive was valid.
Rocket ticket prices are outrageous, at least in the lower bowl. I can only afford to go to 4 or 5 games a year, and that's only because of my company offering discounts to selected games. With that being said, the promotions they're doing like 'guys night out' are a step in the right direction. Just need more of them. The Astros, on the other hand, are a great value. Except for the beer prices, but that's to be expected.
Its true that Rockets and Texans games are somewhat expensive, but if you buy your tickets on the day of the game from a scalper, etc.. you can usually get the seats at 25-50% cheaper. If you wait about 10 minutes after the game starts you get a price on the lower end of that range. This is when scalpers start to get nervous, and will sell just to make some cash and go home. Obviously, if you are taking a date to the game its probably not the best thing to do. But if you are just with your buddies its something that would save you alot of money.
I don't mind sitting in the upper level. I had a pair of tickets for 9 games this season (mini-plan, two I wanted to go to and a "free" one) and it was just over $200. In my experience, fans care more in the upper level anyway. If I could lay off the beer at the games - it'd be really cheap. My only complaint would be that it seemed like every game I went to this year had little kid dance teams for halftime entertainment. There seemed to be more variety in past years.
The most interesting part, I think, is the player likability column. The Mavs (who were described here as having no personality) are #1. The Rockets are 6th in the league and 20th overall. The Jailblazers are a surprisingly good (considering) 18th in the league and 81st overall. The Knicks and Pacers are dead last, 119th and 120th overall.
These things are r****ded, Texans like all NFL games are a good value because there is only 8 games (now full price for 2 preseason games suck) Baseball and Basketball are right in line just like the Astros and Rockets are. Rockets advantage is the upper level tickets are a much better deal because of how crappy upper tickets are at Astro games plus less games in basketball. A 40 or 50 dollar ticket for an Astro game does put you in a good seat but you must remember there are 81 home games so the importance is diminished. I sit lower bowl for Rockets, tickets are 55 bucks a game and I think they are good seats although I must admit the club level prices out real fans. All and all I say Rockets and Astros ticket prices are in line with each other I am more happy at Rockets games because the food quality and the service is supierior. The Texans service and food are just as ****ty as the Astros but atleast the bang for my buck is better (I am not taking win/loss record into account) So I rank them, 1.Texans value and experiance a plus/service and quality are a negative 2.Close second, tickets are a little high (well everything is ok minus those club level tickets those are way too high) so that is a negative/customer service and food and drink quality are very high 3.Astros the biggest plus has been the improved atmosphere over the years, also a nice place to watch a game if you have good seats/horrible service and overpriced ****y food and beer also like the Texans games no choices I think the Texans and Astros should drop Aramark ASAP and both the Astros and Rockets need to price freeze for a while Side note, Astros Tickets in the section we shared tickets in the first few seasons at MMP more than doubled since the park opened going from 2,000 a ticket to 4,000 a ticket how can a family of 4 justify 16k for season tickets when there is no way anyone can make 10 straight days of games during a homestand?
At least the Texans ranked 38th in sexually transmitted diseases (STD's). I see the value increasing now that Carr is gone. He's definately a rubber man.
I'm very dissapointed with the Rockets. I just renewed my season tickets..... - The prices went up (we're paying $40 per seat this year vs. $35 last year) - The promotions have been TERRIBLE (take lessons from the Astros) - Parking is annoying, though livable - Reward for purchasing your season tickets early? A Yao jersey - Last year they had a great point program that I really liked, and they brought it back this year, but only have crappy things to use your points on. Last year we loved how you could get Toyota Center money to use on concessions for your points, they snatched that away real fast! - Food is so so IMO, prices are high but it seems to be along the same pricing as the Astros have We actually contemplated not renewing, mostly because of the $$ and the promotions, but as it turns out, we'll be back next year. Pugs Edit: I forgot to include the TERRIBLE halftime shows we've been forced to sit through!
From what I understand, Rockets will be raising the prices for next year. I'm not especially happy, not that anyone would be. I strongly feel they need to revise the seating price map - but they've dug a hole that they can't get out of with the club seating. They don't want regular fans in those seats, period. Pretty shortsided. Evan
You know what's crazy? We sit in section 112, which is right by the club seats. There is a lady that owns the 2 end seats in our row and the 2 rows below it, so 6 seats total. Workers are constantly coming by there talking to her and bringing her free things. I'm not just talking about 2-3 workers, I'm talking about 10-20 at least! The thing that gets on my nerves more than anything though is that anytime she wants she just walks right over to the club section and goes in....and they let her! She goes through the side closer to the court whenever she pleases. It is blocked off and they still let her go right by whenever she pleases. It drives me insane, I'm just so tempted to follow her one day and say, well if she gets to go so do I!!! She's pretty old, so the only thing I can figure is that she has been a season ticket holder for a LONG time, though I've never seen her awarded an autographed ball for it. Pugs
Not too happy either, I will say they have been the same the last three years while Astros tickets have gone up every year. I can say this, I think the upper level is staying the same but yes ours are going up. Your right bro, the club level is beyond what regular fans can afford, 165 or 185 a game, come on.
