I was doing a quick and dirty genealogy search the other day, and found out that I'm a decendant of Nathaniel Hawthorne (The Scarlett Letter) through my paternal grandfather. Anyone else with famous ancestors?
I feel your ancestor put my life in danger. I very nearly died of boredom when I had to read that book.
I am a direct descendant of Texas Ranger and Confederate Colonel John T. "RIP" Ford. He was mainly known for leading the last battle of the Civil War.
More infamous, but Frank Stilwell was a great great great uncle of mine. Frank Stilwell is the person who killed Morgan Earp, as depicted in Tombstone.
2 Texas Rangers: 1 was good (fought the Klan around Waco); the other's a bit more gray (fought the Comanches & did some nasty things) 1 guy who shot & killed the sheriff of Enid, Oklahoma, in 1895. Apparently the sheriff needed killing, as it was done in broad daylight in front of witnesses & he was never prosecuted. Confederate General Henry Hopkins Sibley, failed invader of New Mexico (?!) for the Confederacy, degenerate alcoholic, inventor of the Sibley Stove (used by the Army up to WWII)
My great grandfather Edward G Melroe created Melroe industries in Gwinner North Dakota. They manufactured the very first Bobcat Skid-Steer Loaders. The same Bobcats you see everywhere nowadays.
My grandfather stormed Omaha beach. I may have more famous ancestors but none more important to me. DD
My great Grandma always said we were related to Daniel Boone so that is how I got my middle name. My brother did some genealogy and found out that Daniel Boone was our great, great...etc, grandfather.
My maternal grandfather's bloodline goes literally to the Mayflower and beyond. That's the side of the family that's been in the US forever and that produced Robert Gould Shaw, who was the colonel in command of the all black 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, as depicted in the movie Glory, which is pretty cool.
600 years back, you have a billion ancestors.... So this "I'm related to Christopher Columbus" stuff people say is nonsense. Oh, and I have no idea who I'm related to.
