A couple of weeks ago, there was a thread here that talked about "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" got mentioned. One guy (can't remember who it was but it seemed like a poster who has a low post count) was talking about how great "Family Guy" was and that it was even better (gasp) than "The Simpsons". People (including me) sorta beat him down for such heresy, but a funny thing happened the other night. It was Wednesday and I was surfing around the TV. Normally, I don't have time to do this but I did that night. I got to the Cartoon Network and I recognized the Peter Griffin character. I said to myself, "Hmmm, this must be the Family Guy, the show that some people think is so great. I guess I need to watch and see what all the hoopla is about." It was the episode in which Peter, for some reason (I missed the first 10 minutes), thought he was black! I could already see some similarities with "The Simpsons" and there were some things that brought a smile to my face. This was "The Simpsons" - no holds barred, we don't care who we offend style! I liked it enough to watch it last night as it was the one in which Peter helps his cop friend (Joe Mason?) compete in the Olympics for handicapped people (I can't remember the exact name). I thought I was never gonna stop laughing when the one guy in the wheelchair was taunting Joe about seeing his wife after the games were over and was saying "Boom shaka laka, boom shaka laka" but he was saying it in a computerized voice ala Stephen Hawking! I know it is crude and bad to be laughing at stuff like this, but there was just something about the way it was done that made it funny. Maybe I am insensitive but after all this is a cartoon we are talking about, so I don't think it is a big deal. At any rate, I love this show! I am going to make sure that I watch it Monday - Thursday on the Cartoon Network at 10:30 P.M. CST. If there are any "Family Guy" fans out there (it seems like R2K is one) that want to tell me about some of the other episodes or just about the characters in general, please tell me as this was one of the reasons for starting this thread.
I think my favorite episode is where there dog falls in love with another dog. I personally dont like tv all that much. Besides seinfeld and the simpsons. And after watching seinfeld reruns all those years friends became tolerable. But I would have to say that this show for me is right up there with the others that i just listed.
Check out the DVDs, pretty much all of the episodes are on there and they are worth checking out. The funniest guy on the show has to be Quagmire, the sex crazed neighbor, whenever he is on screen, he is guranteed to make you laugh. There is not one episode I didnt like other than the one where Brian falls in love with an old lady.
It was me you're talking about with the low post count and the blasphemy. Glad you've seen the light. In any case, putting aside the debate over which show is better, I'm going to agree with Quagmire being one of the funniest characters. "Heh heh. Oohh Riight."
The hardest I lhave laughed wathcing FG is the episode where Peter and Lois are discussing how bad things are for their impressionable children while casually dressing up in S&M gear. As they decide their kids will be all right and Peter pulls his zippered mask on, Lois says "The safety word is 'banana'" and punches his lights out.
I hated that show, couldnt stand looking at the old main character lady, but sticking with the comedy central theme, did anyone like the upright citizens brigade?
quagmire's great but my favourite is stewie. "victory is mine" "i rather like this god fellow. he's very theatrical, a pestilence here, a plague there. omnipotence, gotta get me some of that". my favourite episodes are when stewie meets his baby brother while the brother was just a sperm in peter's death-star-like testicals, and the one where peter played gold instead of celebrating his anniversary with lois. "does this look like a Q to you" - quagmire
Manny, you missed the best part of that episode, which is our favorite episode. At the beginning, Chris, the fat son, is talking ghetto. Hysterical. "Wheelie Time" "Wheeeeeeeeeee" That whole freaking episode is hysterical. Stewie's dance for the cheerleaders has me crying every time.
Damn. I know that I will see it again, unless Cartoon Network gets rid of it (which they better not). I start laughing every time I think about the guy in the wheelchair with the Stephen Hawking type voice telling Joe Mason, "Boom shaka laka, boom shaka laka, ..." LMAO
"Lets get a kitty!" "What the deuce?" "The life on the wife was taken by the knife!" I loved the episode where Peter is accused of sexual harrassment at work and has to go to a feminist retreat, and gets this bottom lip pulled over the back of his head and starts acting like a woman afterwards. I loved the one where Peter and Lois separate and Lois dates Quagmire, and Peter dates Jennifer Love Hewitt. The Lois vs JLH fight was hysterical. Jeez there's so much more. They're all great. Oh yeah another hilarious quote is when a little toddler girl Stewie likes hurts herself at the park and he says "See this is why the WNBA doesn't get any respect." It was just so random, but well placed. If your open minded and not easily offended this is a great series to watch. IT IS better than the Simpsons but was just too controversial to keep making new eps.
That is a funny episode, but the one I was referring to was the one where he discovered he was part African-American. For making the statements you did without even watching The Family Guy, you should be subjected to a J-Lo movie festival while reading threads about the Cowboys! "That man's seemed to suffer a rather serious snakebite!" "Just because you can't feel your teeth doesn't mean the girl can't feel your insults." I could go on all day.
Yea, I just couldn't remember any good lines from that one - all I could remember were the ones with Joe Swanson (I knew that I couldn't remember his last night right). What was his black name again? Shabooboo?? Anyway, if this scene is as great as the quote, then I can't wait to see this episode! Police Officer: Hey! That's Against the law! You're coming with me! Peter Griffin: (singing to the tune of U Can't Touch this) Ah ah ah! Can't Touch Me/ Can't Touch me/ Ja ja ja ja just like the bad guy/ from Lethal Weapon 2/ I've got diplomatic Immunity/ so Hammer, you can't sue/ I can write graffiti even jay-walk in the streets/ I can Riot, loot, not give a hoot, and touch your sister's teat/ Can't touch me/ Can't touch me/ Joe Swanson: What in god's name is he doing? Peter Griffin: Can't Touch me! Cleveland: I believe it's the worm. Peter Griffin: [still singing] Can't touch me/ STOP, Peter time/ I'm a big shot, there's no doubt/ light a fire then pee it out/ Don't like it, kiss my rump/ Just for a minute, let's all do the bump/ Can't touch me/ Yeah, do the Peter Griffin Bump/ Can't touch me/ I'm Presidential Peter/ Interns think I'm hot/ Don't care if you're handicapped, I'll still park in your spot/ I've been around the world/ from Hartford to Back Bay/ It's Peter, Go Peter, I'm so Peter, Yo Peter, Let's see Regis rap this way/ Can't touch me!
(I knew that I couldn't remember his last night right). That should say "last name right" - darn no edit.
"Make like Siamese twins and split... and then one of you die." "Oh no. I gotta fart, but I don't know which way to lean." "Kids, we just have to learn to accept this. Like one of those stories on Dateline where a family member suffers a horrible accident and becomes a burden on everybody. Sure, they pretend to be happy, but they're dead inside, they're dead. And that'll be our lives." "Motel Owner: This is the bathroom but watch out, we got some bad roaches here. Roach 1: Hey! You're on our turf man. Roach 2: Hey man, I... I cut you, I cut you up so bad, you, you gonna, you gonna wish I no cut you up so bad. Brian: Those are bad roaches. Motel Owner: I blame the schools."
