Does anyone remember going to this place? From the age of 12 to 15, I use to go there almost every weekend. I met a lot of girls and I used to have a blast there. I was just going through some music that I want to learn how to play and I've decided that I want to learn a bunch of "New Wave" songs that they used to play back then. I remember there was a lot of the Cure, Erasure, New Order, Depeche Mode. I would give anything to see a set list of what the DJ use to play on any of those nights. There were so many songs that weren't regularly played on the radio and I have no way to really remember the good ones. Now that I'm thinking of it, I remember the Bronski Beat and ABC and Dead or Alive being some of the regular plays. Anyway, I'm 31 now and just going through memories of a fun time of my life. Anyone out there have any similar memories?
i'm 31, too..or will be in May. i remember Fame City. my memories from there: 1. seeing Kathy Ireland there. seriously...how can you look at Kathy Ireland and not believe in God? 2. meeting Alan Ashby there. it was an All-Star weekend and some friends were with me at the water park there. Ashby was excluded from an all-star game he should have been in. he talked to us for a while about baseball. good times. 3. later, my firm defended a security guard company that got sued there! good times.
Haha, All my friends and I used to work at fame city. It was our first job. I used spend alot of time at EFX because it was for the "older" crowd. Life was good when I was teenager. Does anyone remember Club Soda near westheimer?
I remember it both as Fame City and Fun Plex. I don't remember how old I was when it changed, but I do remember that I was out of the country that summer visiting family in Guatemala. When I came back, the name change was one of the first things my sisters told me at the airport. Does anybody remember when these like 6 wheeled tanks with tennis ball cannons were there for a short time? It was like a traveling company or something. I think they were only there once. My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I just remember that my brother and I were too young to drive them and that they never came back when we were older.
oh, my gosh, that's funny!!! i totally forgot about those things...and even now, i just have a very vague recollection of them.
HELL YEAH, I loved that place... I remember when they were doing so well the opened "Fame City In Memorial City mall"
I vaguely remember Fame City. My favorite was Hanna Barbara land, which used to be where Splash Town is now (I think.) There was also some other place I used to go, but nobody ever seems to remember what it was. I think it was on the loop, but I'm not positive about that. It was like at the top of a hill, and there was a huge slide that you could see from the freeway. Not a water slide, but one of those that your ride down on a potato sack. Anybody know what I'm talking about?
i remember going to hana barbara land once when i was little!! i have no idea where it was but i remember it was a bit of a drive. only lasted a few yrs but yogi bear was there. do y'all remember phymsical whimsical (or something like that) in Sharpstown mall in the mid 80s?? they had a slide from the second story all the way down to the first. that was my first place to see those mirros that distort your figure and we got a kick out of it! keep in mind, i was abt 7.
Oh man, I remember that! I specifically remember those mirrors and how amazed I was by them. My grandpa took me and my brother up there a few times. For some reason I also think they had an area where you could dress up in old western clothes and have old time pictures taken. Good memories!
yeah!!! they did have a costume area!! i also remember they had a huge cylinder that rolled and you got inside it. kinda like a hamster in one of those wheel things!! they had an area that had those colorful balls and you could peg ppl with (not that i ever did that, but i was pegged once and i thought the boy that threw it was mean). i think i went there 2-3 times for birthday parties and after we BEGGED our parents to take us. we lived in pasadena so it was kinda far. good times! i guess i was too young to remember Fame City...doesn't even ring a bell with me.
Whoa, creepy....I grew up in Pasadena (well, Deer Park) too! But I lived near Hobby airport until I was 10, so I guess it's not quite as freaky.
That place was great too, one time I was running so fast in that mirror maze I ran right into a glass wall and things turned brown for a sec, but it was still fun I liked that HUGE ball pit they had there too.. It seemed like it was the size of a full size pool at the time... and that huge mouse wheel was great also.. WOW I wish I was a kid again!!! -edit- and that dark room that you could stand still on the wall and walk away and your outline would be there when you left.. great stuff!!!
I remember Fame City. That was the coolest place in the world when I was a kid. Fame City Waterworks was always alot of fun during the summer.
i remember the dark room too!!! i remember going home and doing that with our ceiling fans. i'd stare at it close my eyes, look somewhere else and i could see the outline!! when you're a kid, EVERYTHING is so fascinating!!! i wonder why/how phymsical whimsical went out of business if so many of us liked it?!?! i don't know how big it really was since when we were little, everything looked bigger, but i do remember it being the biggest pit like that i've ever seen. so i guess that meant bigger than chuckie cheese, pistol pete's pizza, etc. i grew up on the west side of 45 near fuqua and scarsdale. would've gone to Dobie HS but moved when i was 9 to Clear Lake.
Pfffft. Peppermint Park was where it was at, in my day. I do remember working in The Enchanted Kingdom for Astroworld in 1988. They had that outline dark room there, as well. But the cool part was after hours, we could go in the back area of the enchanted kingdom and check out the remains for The Alpine Sleigh Ride.
Thank you. Although I did grow up a couple blocks away from Fame City so I ended up spending quite a bit of time there too...but Peppermint Park requires a ride on the waybacker so it gets the edge here. P.S. - Who knows why Archer Dodge sucks ass?
I went a half dozen times. My main memories were The Zipper and That train that kids would ride around the park.
there were some planes you could sit in and go up and down...sort of like a ride you'd see at DisneyWorld...and i do remember the train.
