Anthony Falsone, the strength and conditioning coach of Rockets has arrived China at 8:30AM ET this morning (That is one hour ago. Oh, I am so quick.) He will instruct Yao Ming about his strength training. When he knew Yao had reached 320 lbs last week, he told Yao to lose weight in order to keep his agility. Yao has begun to take steak and ice cream out of his meal.

Falsone will stay in China for about three days.

I had no idea the Chinese team would allow for this personal one-on-one coaching for Yao. I think it's great.

330lbs? At first I thought that was an overestimation but if Falsone is there perhaps that number is true. Talk about packing on pounds!

Anyway, glad the Rockets sent Falsone over there to work with Yao. I am confident Yao will be ready to go by training camp and the regular season.

now yao needs to learn how to throw that weight around and beat the crap out of shaq! if yao only improves one thing this year i will be convinced he can dominate the league. YAO MUST BE AGGRESSIVE! people for the love of christ yao show everyone you can be the man and act like it when you get the ball and push someone around! damn it when will this season start!!!!

Just want to correct one thing. Yao said he is 145 kg now in this article. I just checked, it is equal 320 lbs.

i'd rather have a light-weight Yao then a heavy one. His game is finesse. There's only one Shaq, Yao's game is more like Tim Duncan's.

Shaq is dropping some serious weight so Ming should really watch it. We only have room for one MoT type player on our team. You know, the type that pays no attention to what they eat.

I wouldnt worry about it. He's taking it easy for the summer and at his age, some natural weight gain is normal.

He used to wash his own bowls after dinner. Discipline will not be a problem.

true about the finesse in his game, but i wouldn't mind him being 320 pounds with some power to his game...Last year at 300 lbs., he still ran the floor very well compared to most centers...

Weren't the Chinese National team coaches so impressed with Yao Ming's physical development over his year with the Rockets that they asked the Rockets to send over work-out plans for the entire Chinese National team?

If so, then Falsone could be over there just as a good will trip to see how all are doing. But mostly I am sure he is there to check out Yao Ming.

Yao played at around 300 last season, right? So if he ends up with about 10 extra pounds of muscle and retains the quickness he had before he wore himself out then I think we should be pleased. We'll have to wait and see. I still can't believe the Rockets didn't have someone there working with and monitoring Yao's conditioning in China. Someone known by Falsone and paid for by the Rockets. Was it not allowed? Too expensive? (nah!)

Thanks for the update, windandsea. Sorry so many of us use the archaic English pounds, etc. Hey, this is an eccentric country! ;)

I dunno how much Shaq weighs now, but he was on an episode of Streetball, just observing in the background, and the man looked to be in much better shape, like how he used to be around 5 years ago. He's really been true to his word on getting in shape for next season after that San Antonio series loss.

Just to remind you that Yao Ming is a finesse player and that he is preparing to play Basketball, not become the Champion of the WWF. The Game has changed from 'Bangarama' along with the rules of the game. Also his mind set is Chinese which is very different from than of the American mind set. So you will not see Shaq II but you will Yao Ming I. Eventually Yao Ming will overcome Shaq not by brute force but by superior Basketball Skills.
