NBA TV says Arroyo to be traded... NBA TV announced that Arroyo has been traded, though the receiving team has yet to be announced....Not sure if this is true or not, I read it from a Blog about Fantasy Basketball ..Anyone that can substantiate this report??http://fantasy-nba.blogspot.com/ It also says: "However, the Salt Lake Tribune says that Arroyo has pain in his left hand"...so who knows if this report is correct. Any way the Rockets could be involved?? I'd love to see Arroyo come here...
a draft pick I supose, maybe wesley? I wouldnt do wesley for arroyo though, thats a terrible deal for us.
I would do Wesley for Arroyo in a heartbeat. Arroyo is a true PG that just signed a cheap deal this summer. We have too many combo guards on this team.
I would send David Wesley fast to trade for Arroyo -Wesley is a gray beard and has little game left- wait til March comes and Wesley starts breaking down... We need a true point guard as bad as we need muscle under the basket to help Yao... This Coach /GM has aquired 3 (three ) shooting guards (Sura Wesley and Barry).....We need a true point guard more mobile than the anti semite -broke down Mr. Ward...
Heh....wait til Marc (or next week) comes and Wesley starts draining 3 pointers. He is a great fit for this team.
sura and gaines works capwise in a deal for arroyo. i'm sure they are looking for a draft pick in return....we just happen to have one still i wouldn't bet on it.
The two teams that I see that REALLY need help at PG are us (Rockets) and the Clippers. We could possibly send Sura maybe. Clippers have both Jaric & Livingston are out injured for a while and they can offer Jaric (expiring contract) and maybe Wilcox for someone (Sloan has been unhappy with thier interior defense). I'll curb my excitement until I see something cause I don't want to be let down. He would be REAL nice as a Rocket.
Sura for Arroyo? I'll pass without a doubt. Sura grabs rebounds, has great penetration, can actually score and passes well enough. Tmac is our playmaker, this team doesnt need a playmaker at PG, we need somebody who can defend, score when needed and push the ball down court. That is Sura.
Sura does quite a lot for us but our PG needs to be able to hit the 3 pointer consistently and Arroyo is a much better shooter than him. I'm still not impressed by his passing ability though.
Some of ya'all are forgetting how much better Sloan's system makes players look. Do the names Shandon Anderson, Howard Eisley, & Byron Russell ring a bell? If not, check out Raja Bell or Matt Harpring before and after... http://www.nba.com/playerfile/matt_harpring/index.html http://www.nba.com/playerfile/raja_bell/index.html Perhaps I'm alone but I have visions of Arroyo reverting to pre-Utah... http://www.nba.com/playerfile/carlos_arroyo/index.html Arroyo also has 4 more contract years after this one.
GATER- To be fair, 3 years remaining after this one. He signed a 4 yr, 16 million deal if memory serves. I think most have images of Arroyo as the international stud he was in the Olympics. On the intriguing side, the Rockets have a trade exception large enough for him, an open roster slot, and a need/want for a PG. However I don't think he's a good enough outside shooter. (Before anyone mentions his 39% 3P shooting...it's on 18 attempts.) If only Sura knew how to shoot...
I don't know if Arroyo is going to be traded or not but he was on the court for 2 minutes against the Spurs tonight.
NIKE - I didn't make my point very clearly. Yes, 3 more years at just under MLE $. My point was that within 3 years, a player of Arroyo's caliber could be had via the MLE. I think your'e dead-on with the "international stud" perception. But IIRC Arroyo played his best (most inspired?) vs the USA. For the rest of the Olympics, he was mediocre. My gut-level feelng is (3pt shooting aside) that in Utah's system, Barrett would be comparable to Arroyo. If the Rox acquired him, I'd be OK with it but my view from a distance is that a decent rebounding PF would impact the Rox more than Arroyo.
I agree wholeheartedly. I'm fairly content with our guard situation- Barry, Wesley, Sura, and Barrett is a solid quartet, with Ward and Gaines outside the rotation. I don't really think we need a PG; the biggest problem imo is size. Barrett is a small PG, and Wesley is a small SG. Sura compensates for Wesley in the starting lineup, and TMac is so ridiculously versatile, but when Denver had Melo and Dermarr Johnson in there, they had a pretty bad mismatch of Johnson on Wesley that they didn't seem to exploit enough. Ideally, if Gaines knew how to shoot he'd cover this deficiency pretty nicely, imo.
i like our guards aswell. my only adjustment would be to move tmac back to the 2 with wesley at the 1. sura and barry off the bench would be a big spark. we have no small foward to make it work but it would give us a nice sized backcourt with fire power on the bench. our next trade should be one of our 4's for a 3. that would also clear room to sign a 4 this summer.
