"...and the great Satan will perish from the land! Praise Allah!"... did that sound arabic enough for yous guys or what? Translator on CBS' Interview with Saddam Hussein Used Fake Accent The man who spoke Saddam Hussein's words in English during a CBS interview with Dan Rather late last month was an actor using a fake Arabic accent, the Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday. The paper said Steve Winfield is a member of the Screen Actors Guild who bills himself on a Web site called "Fabulous Voices" as an expert in putting on foreign accents. CBS said the network vouched 100 percent for the accuracy of its translation which was read on air in English in a voice compatible "with the piece. I expect that kind of goofy crap from "The Daily Show" but come on CBS, gimme a break.
What would have been really funny is if the translator would have given Saddam a French or German accent! Even funnier would have been a down-home Texas drawl!
Here ya go... We as committed ourselves to resolushun. we're implementin dat resolushun in accordance wiv wot da united nations wants us to do. hit iz on dis basis dat we as conducted ourselves. We do not as missiles dat go beyond da prescribed ranges, by da u.n. da inspecshun teams as bin in da house. dey as inspected every place. an' if dere iz da quesshun to dat effect, I fink da quesshun should be addressed to dem. Is it coz I is black? I fink da united states an' da world also knows dat dere iz - I fink da yous.s. an' da world nah dat iraq iz narr longa has da weapons. \Da united states - da world - knows dat dere iz naffink in iraq hof? whateva da noise has bin made about. an' I reckon dat that noise an' da fleets dat as bin brought around an' da mobilizashun dat's bin done wuz, in fact, done partly to cova da massiv lie dat wuz bein waged against iraq about chemical, biological an' nuclear weapons. and hit wuz on dat basis dat iraq hactually accepted resolushun - accepted hit, evun though iraq wuz fe real certain dat wot hit had said, wot da iraqi officials?had kept sayin, dat? iraq wuz empty, wuz void hof any such weapons, wuz da case. but iraq accepted dat resolushun? in orda not to allow any misinterpretashun hof its posishun. and, hindeed, in orda to make da case fe real clear dat iraq wuz narr longa in possession hof any such?weapons. iraq accepted to agree to deal wiv dat resolushun. dat iz why, whun yous natta about such missiles, dees missiles as bin destroyed. dere iz narr missiles dat iz contrary to da prescripshun hof da united nations in iraq. these missiles wuz des - missiles dat wuz proscribed - as bin destroyed an' iz narr longa dere.
It reminds me of the little scandal they had when they darkened a photo of OJ Simpson to make him look more sinister. Can CBS really get the xenophobic reaction they want out of the public if they hear the voice of a nice all-American boy translating Hussein's words?
