The Rockets must win at least 15 more games (some say 12) to assure themselves of a playoff birth (my typo for berth seemed too appropriate so I'm leaving it). What 15 teams will be shoot down in this hunt? These are my psychic picks.

Yes Seattle Feb. 29
No Lakers Mar. 03
No Wolves Mar. 06
No Mavs Mar. 07
Yes Clips Mar. 09
Yes Hornets Mar. 11
No Griz Mar. 13
Yes Suns Mar. 15
Yes Warriors Mar. 19
No Kings Mar. 21
Yes Blazers Mar. 22
Yes Raptors Mar. 24
Yes Grizz Mar. 26
No Bucks Mar. 28
Yes Wolves Mar. 29
No Lakers Apr. 01
Yes Nugz Apr. 02
Yes Kings Apr. 04
Yes Warriors Apr. 06
Yes Clips Apr. 08
No Nugz Apr. 09
Yes Jazz Apr. 10
Yes Sonics Apr. 12
No Mavs Apr. 14

Can we do it? Will we do it?

Portland has 25 games left, and 16 of those are against teams that have a better winning% than they do. 12 of those games are on the road, where they have a .379 win%.

If we were to go 13-12, the Blazers would have to go 17-8 just to tie us (thats almost a .700 win%). Given the quality of their remaining opponents, and their road record, that seems highly unlikely.

Looking at our schedule, if we maintain the status quo, we should have 12 wins in the bank.

Granted we need to win every game regardless. But I for one, am not concerned about the Blazers catching up to us.

BTW, Portland's recent success (like our own) is nothing to get excited about.

Their 5 game winning streak:

Boston
Miami
Orlando
Golden State
LA Clippers

They have only beaten an above .500 team twice since January 1st (Sac and Memphis).

Our of their last 17 opponents, 12 have been against non playoff teams. They were 1-4 against the other playoff teams.

I hope so, but a real gut check will be necessary for the remainder of the season lest we have severe withdrawal pains over the summer.:D

Man, if we could get Stevie going a little more, we could easily pull out 16-18 wins IMHO......would a 50 win season chill everyone out a little more? I should think so...pretty big considering our general performance this year

We have lakers then wolves then mavs!!! Brutal:(

I am already thinking about all the trade Steve, Cat and fire JVG threads

Well it will be a test but we will make the playoffs because we are able to beat all but the elite teams of the West. And we will beat these teams!!

I would say yes we can but it depends on the Point Guards mind set.If Steve concentrates on being the great Basketball Player he realy is and goes for the Win rather than showing that he cant play and be great when he plays the way JVG wants, then I see the Rockets soar.

If we some how find a way to miss the playoffs this year again this team should be re-tooled from top to bottom becuase theres no way in my mind that says were not gona be in the playoffs.

Good research Codell! Good points.

I think the Rockets if they stay the course as you mention above going .500 the rest of the way will get into the playoffs.

Bottom line is are u happy just getting in and getting swept in the first round? thats what would happen if the playoffs started tomoro........Anything less than a 7th seed, and a fight to 6 or 7 games in the playoffs is a disappointment to me.....Denver should NOT finish ahead of us....No freaking way!!!

I agree with you. Denver's schedule ahead is not easier than us. I still believe we can finish with 6.
